mk2 golf gti 16v 14 Nov 2002 (Forum)
if someone could answer these quick questions it would be appreciated: 1 - where is the fuel filter 2 - is there a MAF sensor, and if so where can it be found? i'm asking this on behalf of a friend, and am miles from his car, so can't find them for him. cheers. Mr Smith. -
Diesel Payback Miles 5 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Diesel cars are more economical then petrol but the cars themselves cost more as well as the fuel. Over what mileage therefore does a new diesel vehicle become a cost effective buy? As a further thought , why are diesel more expensive when the engines are, allegedly, less complicated? Meldrew (I just do not believe it!) -
Running out of diesel 15 Sep 2002 (Forum)
A question from someone new to diesel..... If a petrol car runs out of fuel I just stick some more in and go. I've heard that a diesel has to be put through a certain procedure; 're-priming' or something like that. Any advice please! I'm thinking of getting an N-reg Mondeo turbo diesel. -
The silence is deafening! 23 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Where is everyone? Virtual hangovers? Fed up of speed camera rants? Incidentally, measured the fuel economy of my Audi A4 Tdi at 57.9mpg on a recent round trip to the north west of Scotland. Fully laden, crusing at 70-75mph. I used 4.55 litres to a gallon - is that right? Why doesn't everyone drive a diesel? -
EUNOS ROADSTER 20 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I HAVE RECENTLY PURCHASED A EUNOS ROADSTER 1.8. THE FUEL CONSUMPTION SEEMS TO BE A LITTLE HIGH AS I ONLY GET ABOUT 60 MILES TO £10 ON A GOOD RUN. HAVE YOU ANY IDEAS WHY THIS MIGHT BE OR IS THIS NORMAL. I HAVE CHEKED THE AIR FILTER WHICH IS CLEEN. ANY SUGGESTIONS WILL BE WELCOME. -
VW Passat/ Skoda Superb - VW 1.6 and 2.0 TDI Reliability? 9 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Should i consider them at all? Or i should wait for lower price for a new Honda, and just to dont worry about higher fuel consumption? :) -
Internal combustion, 60 years on 19 May 2007 (Forum)
Really out of the box that is :) What would be possible if a choice were made to go in a certain direction, to stay with internal combustion over the next 60 years. I`m inviting you to suspend the logic of current ( fuel cell etc) future car development and consider just what `would be possible technically` with todays internal combustion engines If the millions of pounds spent on fuel cell cars had been ploughed into improving the thermal efficiency of internal combustion engines. -
Mercedes-Benz GLA - DPF regeneration problems... reject car? 24 Jun 2021 (Forum)
I think the process is perhaps completing in a "few" minutes but the system doesn't recognise this and so continues to inject fuel into the exhaust system when it really shouldn't, causing over-heating and the atrocious burning smell on arrival back home, combined with the extremely low fuel aconomy experienced during the regen attempt. -
Hyundai i40 tourer 1.7 active 115ps - Reliability/Economy/Maintenance 3 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I never let the tank drop below half full, and almost exclusively use premium diesel, either Shell V power, or equivalent. I am not ''dissing'' other fuels, but I want as little downtime/workshop time as possible during the car's lifecycle, and want to keep the injectors/fuel pump/dpf/fuel tank as clean as possible, and in the case of the tank, free from condensation/moisture/bacteria. -
Range Rover P38, 1995, Manual Diesel - Range Rover P38 - Diesel not starting/running 6 Nov 2019 (Forum)
No start. 2. Fuel injection pump changed for a refurbed unit and bled. No start. Injectors bled also. 3. Timing is all correct along with fuel injection pump timed. No start. 4. Car computer and engine ECU are synchronised. -
Peugeot 206 - Loss of power and EML with new air filter 9 Jul 2018 (Forum)
It's as if it's getting fuel and then suddenly not getting any so cuts out but then gets more fuel and starts revving again. However, if I put the old air filter back on and floor it, it'll just keep revving and I have no issues whatsoever. -
Honda Civic 1.6 - Fuel consumption - bad or just normal? 14 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I swapped from a 2000W 1.0 Yaris over to a 2004/04 1.6 Civic back in March. Since then I've been quite disappointed with the fuel consumption, getting around 35-36 on average for my normal travelling and no better than 38 even on a long run. Is this normal for the car? I've tried looking on the Real MPG list but it doesn't go as far back as this model and I can't find any other Hondas listed which use this engine. -
Escort Van 1.8 Diesel (non turbo) - Escort Van 1.8Diesel Cold Stat Problem 10 Oct 2011 (Forum)
To try and justified this i took the air intake off one morning and dropped a spoonful of diesel down each pot, put the air intake back on, turned the key, heated the plugs and hey presto it fired straight away, albeit didnt run as it only had the spoonful of diesel to burn, which would strenghten my case that the diesel is running back? Today i have renewed the primer pump on the fuel filter, as i read that these can sometimes leak air, but i still have the problem?......any suggestions? I have also changed the fuel line between the primer pump and the injector pump as both fittings didnt seem that "tight", but that still hasnt cured it. -
Toyota Avensis (2003 - 2008) - Post-service - poor starting and fuel economy 6 Feb 2010 (Forum)
(Strangely, my car also suffered a 5-10% drop in MPG after the 20k service, only being back to normal after the 30k one). One other thing, they added fuel cleaner to the tank. Are these different for petrol and diesel? Is it possible that something unwelcome has been added to the tank? -
SAAB 9-3 (1998 - 2002) - 02 2.2Tid diesel starting problems 24 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I had it taken to local Saab dealer with whom I have now spent a lot of money with them - seemingly to no avail as yet since , having driven the car back from them , it is completely failing to start despite vigorous churning with fully charged battery. Yes there is fuel in it! The Saab dealers haven't given up yet and are going to try again after Xmas. In theirwork so far they started by replacing some fuel T pieces (?) but that didn't do the trick. They then concluded that the fault wasa known weakness - injector seals. -
Vectra 2.0 Di New injector pump.... 15 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Once stopped it had to be left several minutes before it would restart. AA were called, he thought it was a blockage in the fuel line and towed me home. His reasoning was when unscrewing the bleed on the fuel filter he could hear air rushing into the vacuum formed by the engine trying to draw fuel, and that it started and ran for a short time after he opened the bleed on the filter. -
Alfa nostalgia 21 Apr 2002 (Forum)
The most horrible moment I remember was when my uncle and I had just put the cylinder head back on (I honestly can't remember why it had to come off). The fuel line and carbs neede priming and my uncle thought that the easist way was to disconnect the fuel line at the carb into a pot, and spin the engine on the starter (mechanical pump, I think). The trouble was that fuel spurted and missed the pot, and a spark from the distributor ignited the engine bay. -
Battery is not taking off 27 Aug 2023 (Forum)
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/money/other/pioneering-electric-plane-shelved-as-batteries-only-last-a-few-hundred-flights/ar-AA1cAAkc Electric planes won't work beyond 500 miles because battery is too heavy and unlike petrol, the weight of aircraft does not get reduced as it burns fuel. -
Ethanol and E10 petrol 18 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I dont know how much it cost to produce Ethanol, but if it is cheaper than petroleum then surely the price of fuel should come down! Also as Ethanol is made from corn, farmers in some parts of the world will be cutting down rain forests so that they can plant more corrn to satisfy the demand from the oil companies. How to save the planet! -
suzuki swift 20111.2 - instrument panel lights white colour. 3 Mar 2019 (Forum)
The white lights on the fuel and temperature guage are flickering. The red pointer lights are grand. Is this a fuse problem or something more serious. What fuse would be involved? The fuse section in the owners manual does not mention instrument panel fuses or is it a different description?
