Advice about diesel Vs petrol please 11 Oct 2023 (Forum)
Some of them seem to have had to spend £2-3k to sort these issues and still have ongoing problems. Many of us drive quite short distances to pick up and drop off say 4 dogs from houses in quick succession and by nature of carrying dogs we tend to drive relatively slowly. That is my pattern every week day plus longer faster journeys some evenings and weekends. -
Hyundai I20 - Hyundai I20 Oil Leak 13 Oct 2022 (Forum)
Hi all, On Saturday, I took a 2012 i20 with 50k miles on the clock for a test drive, it drove fine, sounded normal, tidy inside and out, went home and slept on it, took it for another test drive on Sunday morning, when I returned it to the dealership, I opened the bonnet again and spotted a bit of oil on the alternator housing and on the aux belt, I couldn't tell where it had come from and I can't say if it was there on Saturday when I first looked at it or not. -

Vauxhall Vectra elite 2.2 auto - Vectra c 2006 elite auto Gear Selector not working 27 May 2021 (Forum)
I have a Vectra C 2006 Auto elite 2.2 I started the car up today and went to put the car into drive, but was unable to move the selector out of park. I then noticed there where no usual lights on the gear selector, the red brake pedal and P not lit up. I had to remove the ashtray and press the override yellow button down with screw driver and move the selector out of park and into drive. -
Applying Exceptional Hardship and Smart Motorways 29 Apr 2021 (Forum)
My other points have all been doing between 34-38 in 30mph zones, so I'm not some kind of mad car racer, just the combination of lots of hours driving and usually driving tired. Last night I was travelling on m23 in the variable speed area. No congestion etc, no signs saying 50 so me and the other cars on the motorway were doing 65-70mph. Something flashed behind me so I'm assuming I've got a ticket, which means 12 points. -
mazda 6 or something else - What used car to buy under £12k 18 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Hi Guys, I need a new car, since my mondeo is on its way out after many years. I do about 20000 a year as my job involves driving around. I need to tow a caravan sometimes and get my dogs in the boot. Priorities are reliability comfort and decent drive with enough guts to overtake decently. Saloon/estate or SUV Budget about 12k Open to suggestions as struggling I have shortlisted with thoughts suzuki vitara.. but small? -
Auto load lugger 10 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Hi, I'm after some advise/recommendations for vehicles that suit my requirements. I currently drive a 2015 diesel astra K which I used for commuting to work as I had a 70 mile round trip each day. About 3 months ago I moved much closer to work but my commute consists of stop/start driving. -
Reported for dangerous driving? 15 Sep 2019 (Forum)
But I'm worried about it in all honesty - it would have looked great in fairness, Ironically I'm booked on an advanced driving course week after next as I'm interested enough to do it. Thanks for any replies. -
Car suitable for taller driver 2 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Happy New Year everyone This year I will on the lookout for a replacement car for my commute to work (25 miles per day in town driving) but as I am turning 40 in 6 months I want something fun to drive for under £12k. But after having problems with my back over Christmas it may have to be something more sensible; which is a shame as I had my heart set on a Toyota GT86. -
Suz Swift 68plate - Windscreen replacement and Lane Change Camera's 26 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Driving my new 68 plate Swift on the A12 yesterday, about 2pm. Near the turnoff for the A120 I'm in a line of traffic indicating left. I've left a sensible gap between me and the car in front. -
Used Hyundai ix20 - dealer or franchise? 9 Sep 2018 (Forum)
My S-i-L wants me to help her find a new car. She currently drives our old Renault Modus and after seeking advice on here and elsewhere the consensus is the ix20 should be ideal. She is going to her local dealer tomorrow for a test drive to be sure it ticks all the boxes (high driving position, good boot space and capable of seating 4). -
Subaru/Suzuki/Duster-Weekend Escapes/Holiday/Exploring car for £6000 21 Jul 2018 (Forum)
I'm finally looking to buy my fist car what I would like to use it for is: weekend escapes, traveling exploring the UK maybe going up to Scotland every once in a while, I live in London at the moment will not use the car for commuting as my work provides me with free public transport around London. My budget is around £6000 I would prefer a SUV style with a tall driving position ( I won't be going off road I just prefer a higher driving position, as when I was young I always drove my dad's off road pickup trucks Hilux ...etc and everytime I get in a small car It just does not feel right I could not be in one for extended periods of times driving. -
Toyota Yaris - Accident 13 Apr 2018 (Forum)
I explained the same for insurance. I have read online and read that I could be charged with dangerous driving and be disqualified from driving as I have only passed my test about 1.5 years. I tried following up with the police on whats going to happen next and I have not heard from them since. -
Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 22-04-2017 Part 2 23 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Driving Dope I am constantly frustrated by car drivers who think that the rules of the road do not apply to them: tailgating, hogging the middle lane, speeding, through red lights, etc. Today I was driving down a narrow, one-way lane when a car driver passed me at speed with only 3 inches to spare, running me off the road. -
FIAT Punto - IN10 - Permission no insurance 2 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Police attended the scene. Now, he has been charged with giving someone permission to drive his car without insurance. He for the life of him does not know who the driver was, no one has owned up. We have had length conversations as to whether he was driving and assures me he wasnt. -
Minibus category lost on foreign licence? 22 Sep 2016 (Forum)
I have a niggling doubt regarding my driving licence entitlements, as I seem to be in a grey area. Having passed a British driving test pre-1992 I am by default entitled to drive a 7.5 tonner and (not for reward) a 15 seater minibus. I swapped to a Spanish licence when I bought a car here in 1999, and my default entitlements were reduced to 3.5 Tons and a 9 seater minibus, despite my protests. -

Audi A4 avant 3.0Tdi quattro s-tronic, 2012, 28000 - A4 strong vibrations on motorway 6 Jan 2016 (Forum)
However there is clearly a problem : I thought that there was an auto box problem but the more I drive it, the more I am convinced that the problem is between the box and the wheels in the 'final drive' or thereabouts. The phenomenon is as follows : The noise level (this car is well sound-proofed and I have new tyres) somewhere starts to increase from 55 mph. -
1.9 cdti with dpf - Dpf and/or engine experts please help 22 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Hi all Trying to find out whats wrong with my motor Using the car as taxi, lot of town driving , no motorway sometimes for weeks First the lack of powerat around 75k miles, felt like the turbo was held back, kept on driving anyway, two weeks later, big "exhaling" sound as it can be from an engine and just stopped. -
Mondeo 2003 TDCI, 2,0, 96kw - Mondeo TDCI keeps on cutting out 23 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Sometimes, that happens after 100 kilometres, sometimes after 30 kilometres etc - is completely random - on cold/hot engine. Sometimes, I can drive 300-400 kilometres in 2-3 days, and the car drives superbly. When the car drives, there are no problems - no strange sounds, it has stable speed etc. Absolutely no symptoms!!! On idle, I can keep the car for 3-4 hours and is ok - does not cut out.
