Peugeot - Expert - 1999 1.9D - wont start 3 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I collected a Diesel expert van from a mate yesterday who has had it sitting around since just before Christmas. It started ok but he did say he had to jump start it yesterday as the battery had gone flat. It wont start this morning at all, turned over fine but just refuses to start. I am contemplating changing the glow plugs. I know my way around petrol engines but diesel is alien to me although i did change the glow plugs on a diesel fiesta a couple of years ago. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.8tdci severe cold start problems 9 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I am experiencing severe cold start problems once the temperature drops to 1 degree or colder and the car has been sitting overnight. In the last month I have had service, new battery, glow plugs and fuel sensor valve fitted - all by Ford main dealer - and it's still happening ... they tell me that without a diagnostic code reading they dont know whats wrong ... Engine turns over and over and over and over and doesnt fire. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 05 2.0 tdci Jump leads wrong way round 14 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Having to jump start the step daughter's Rover 25 today I Placed one end of the red lead on her positive terminal and the other end on my negative (it was going dark and the insulation on the leads runs down the back of the battery). I then put one end of the black lead on her negative and was just about to put the other end on my positive terminal when I realised my mistake, phew!. This made me ponder, what exactly would I have damaged on either car if I had connected them the wrong way round ? -
Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - 1995 1.0 Car won't start after changing the stereo 16 Nov 2008 (Forum)
The wires were in a terrible state and we couldnt wire the new one into them properly. so we put his old one back in but now it does not work. Anyway now the car will not start. The battery is not flat (put a multimeter on and reading was fine) and all fuses are in tact. The only way for the car to start is for us to 'bump' it. We are going out of our minds now - PLEASE HELP -
Rover 200 and 400 (1989 - 1996) - 1995 1.6 Dip beam not working. 15 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Side lights and main beam working OK ( both main beams work in each headlight ). Continuity between dip beam bulb and fuses 10 & 11 (dip beam left & right ) is OK. Battery voltage measured when dip beam switch is on, between blue wire at switch and earth. No voltage measured at fuses 10 & 11 with switch on. Are there any relays for dip beam or is it controlled by Multi-function unit? -
Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 1997 2ltr Water damage 10 Nov 2008 (Forum)
i was going to drain and replace the oil, take plugs out pour some oil into the plug holes and spin the engine over, the battery appears to be flat as the engine wont turn over by the key. If the engine is damaged could we claim from insurance? -
Renault Clio III (2005 - 2009) - 04 1.2 Will not start when hot 5 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I have to leave the car to cool down (so there is just one bar on the temperature gauge) before it will start, could it be something that is either breaking down or a sensing problem when the engine is at operating temp. Any help or advice would be welcomed. The battery seems to be ok and all the warning lights extinguish including the immobilizer light, and the fact that it will start after cool down points in a temp direction, do you think? -
Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 03 2.0 12v socket ignition feed required 3 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I have a bluetooth speaker/handsfree kit plugged in and currently have to unplug/plug back in overnight to avoid battery drain. My previous cars did not have this problem since the sockets turned off! So the question is, how easy is it to change the wiring/feed? And if easy how would I go about it? OR in BR experience would the drain of such a device be so minimal that leaving it plugged in overnight would make no difference/be safe? -
How to buy tyres these days, internet tyre dealer? 12 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Everywhere else quoted better of course and I never rang back, but they are all still there on city ring roads, selling exhausts, tyres batteries and so on. What about these internet sites though such as Black circles, that give competitive prices and then you go along to the designated tyre dealer to get them fitted. Never done that before, have you? -
Austin (Rover) Mini (1972 - 2001) - 95 1.3 smokin electrics 30 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I have an older car I don't use much. The battery was running low so I removed it and trickle charged it on a ' clever ' charger until it was fully juiced . On connecting it back to the car , suddenly smoke emerged from the engine bay - I quickly disconnected it... -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 2ltr cutting out randomly 9 Aug 2008 (Forum)
My BMW E46 2002 cuts out after a mile after starting, its a total loss of ignition only the battery light comes on,no others, if travelling fast enough when the pedal is pressed it will continue on and the light goes out, some time it will stall completely, if the car is turned off then will restart, sometimes it has to be locked and wait for 5 mins or so the will restart. this is intermittent, and does not leave any fault codes, the car runs sweet as a nut, other than when it dies. -
Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - Scrapping a driveable car: economic sense? 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The car already has a dodgy CV joint, a front spring needs replacing, it has severely scratched windscreen (I bought a wiper blade from the pound shop -- doh!), needs new HT leads and probably a new battery for the winter. And is cosmetically bad, with scratched bodywork and front bumper repaired with insulation tape. And that's before the MOT test. It runs OK, though. Should/when it fails its MOT. -
Renewable energy 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
What if the same stuff was applied to a motorcar. i.e the slightist movement of panels, or floorpan generated sufficient charge to top up batteries. maybe a generator could be combined with the wheels spinning or the suspension working, so that each time a bump was hit, a charge is created and stored. You'd never run out of juice in London with all those speed humps! -
MG MGF (1995 - 2002) - 01 1.8 radio codes 23 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I have an MGF ( X reg) and recently had to disconnect the battery. Now I can't find the radio code to get the radio / cd player up and running again. I have tried the previous owner to no avail and my old MG Rover garage tell me they no longer have access to the database where this information was held ( they are now a SEAT garage). -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 96 1.9td problem starting once engine is warm 24 Mar 2008 (Forum)
hi all just wondered if you guys help me out on this problem that i have with my peugeot 306 turbo diesel.N reg cold start and it starts fine but there's loads of grey smoke and once the engine is warm it takes ages (about a minute) for it to start and again there's loads of smoke. its really annoying especially when it starts ok from cold but once i drive somewhere and warmed the engine up, turn the engine of and start it again it takes ages for it to start to the point were it nearly flattens the battery. i have put new glow plugs in but have the same problem. any ideas guys? cheers subiacoste -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 00 2.0L petrol, 128 bhp, difficult starting 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Once started, it runs fine, also starts fine when engine warm. No fault codes showing when I ran it through diagnostic equipment at local garage. HT leads? Battery? - Don't want to to start replacing items at random before having half an idea what the cause might be! Any ideas would be appreciated. Cheers. -
Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1999 TDi - clock & stereo resetting in the morning 8 Mar 2008 (Forum)
VW Golf Mk3 TDi 1996-Recently when I turn the ignition on in the mornings,I noticed that the digital clock keeps resetting itself to 0:00,and the radio stations have all been lost, also its often hard to start on cold mornings and a couple of times there isnt enough power to start it and I have to use booster.Im guessing that its probably the battery thats dying,(its at least 6-7 years old)but before I shell out £50+ for a new one,is there anything else that could be causing this problem? Toyota Prius II (2003 - 2008) - Rear leg room, shallow boot 28 Jan 2008 (Forum)
In fact, the rear space for passengers is better than my C4 Picasso (5str) Dammit! However, the batteries take up a lot of the floor space in the rear hatch area so the storage space is very shallow. I was surprised at the amount of road noise coming into the cabin too. He pays 15 quid a year road fund. -
Nissan Primera III (1999 - 2002) - 2001 1.8 petrol - Slow starter turn when hot 11 Jan 2008 (Forum)
My 2001 1.8 petrol Primera turns over very slowly when hot. I don't think it's the battery because it starts OK from cold. At the moment, despite turning over very slowy, it's starting OK when hot too, but mainly thanks to the fact it starts at the first turn of the engine. But I think I'll soon reach a point where the starter won't turn at all when hot. -
Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - Immobiliser 414i N Reg 17 Nov 2007 (Forum)
The car is only worth abouth £200.00 We have gone down the route of the emergency key code (which was missing from the car info) but no Rover records exist prior to P reg and have tried a new battery in the fob but no luck. I realise we don't want this info public on the website but if you can help please reply and I will give you my email to send the info. Thank you
