2001 1.8 petrol - Slow starter turn when hot - grogee
My 2001 1.8 petrol Primera turns over very slowly when hot. I don't think it's the battery because it starts OK from cold.

At the moment, despite turning over very slowy, it's starting OK when hot too, but mainly thanks to the fact it starts at the first turn of the engine.

But I think I'll soon reach a point where the starter won't turn at all when hot.

My plan is to remove starter motor, and clean up/re-grease the starter gear. Failing that I'll fit an exchange starter motor.

Any other ideas?

Slow starter turn when hot - MVP
Could be a loose earth somewhere - engine to chasis perhaps?

Have you checked the electrical connections. Often, they can be fine when cold, but only fail when hot as any gap will open up on thermal expansion.

Thanks for the advice MVP and Red Baron - I'll clean and re-grease electrical connections and earthing straps. Fingers crossed it won't cost me any money!

I had a problem on one vehicle-reliable starter but slow cranking.Turned out to be the crimping of the terminal on the cable. Not crimped tightly enough.
