• Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 1.8 Coolant temperature sensor 17 Jan 2009 (Forum)
  Does anyone know whether the Mk3 mondeo 1.8 petrol has two different coolant temperature sensors (one for the guage and one for the ECU) like the Mk2? I know there is one built into the thermostat housing, but not sure whether this is for guage, ECU or both. The car can be quite difficult to start and lumpy when cold, but fine when warmed up.

  hi honest john I was doing a job on my car today with the tools i got for xmas. I had to change the coolant, change the thermostat and flush the matrix of my rover 75 cdt. The problem was I started the job at 2pm and it was dark at 4:30pm and I'd not got around to refitting the heater matrix. So I've left the car on the drive with no anti-freeze in and it's just struck me what I've done.

  My coolant tank keeps emptying. I noticed on Wednesday that it was a little low, by Friday it was completely empty so I filled it up and bled the radiator. Then, after traveling for around 16 miles, it was empty again with the red STOP light coming on and the engine temperature was around 110 Celsius (C).

  Just noticed and dont know how long it has been missing but the coolant tank cap on my old Citroen C15D van is no longer there, question being, am I going to do any damage/risk a breakdown if I keep using the van until I can get a replacement next week?, also any ideas where I can get one?

  Used to overheat when doing a regen going up hill or on inclines, now its happening driving up hill or inclines at any time    Timing belt and water pump changed Genuine Thermostat (yes its in correct also) Genuine Coolant temp sensor  Genuine Coolant flange  Genuine Secondary water pump near sump area changed DPF deleted and gutted out (told it could be blocked) EGR valve deleted from map and blanked off (still same symptoms after) New coolant cap Heater inside car is perfect Fans are working (as they are usually on...)

  Occasionally - once every 10-12 months, it suddenly loses about a litre or so of its coolant, the first time a dodgy clip was replaced on the expansion tank, the last time it was unexplained, then a faulty sensor was replaced, it but has been perfect for a year, but now its just happened again.

  Recently, the engine management light illuminated on the dash, and upon checking the car I found that the coolant tank had lost a lot of its liquid and there were some crusty bits of coolant found at the bottom where the hose was. Engine oil was all fine, there was no white stuff in the engine oil and the car drove with no problems.

  Wondered whether rocker cover gasket leak could be the cause (but have changed this 3 times within last 2 years...!) Bit concerned whether coolant loss and misfire hint at head gasket failure, but there have been no signs of overheating to date. Any advice welcomed. Cheers.

  Girlfriends MINI cooper is coming up to 4 years old and I have had to top the coolant up a couple of times in the 11 months we have had it. Recently its dropped from max to min much quicker and the coolant now looks a bit like a chocolate milkshake in the filler bottle. Oil is clean and hasn't really dropped since the last service (8 months ago).

  I have replaced it with a Renault Grand Scénic petrol 2.0 litre auto and am puzzled by the new service intervals. Now the book specifies a glycol based anti-freeze. The Mégane used glycol, and the coolant changed every 20,000 miles or 2 years. The Scénic however requires coolant changes at 70,000 miles or seven years. -- yet is still apparently on a glycol-based fluid. Can anyone explain, please?

  How important is it to stick to exactly the same make and/or type of brake fluid, coolant, engine oil, power steering fluid etc. etc. when topping up their levels ? My Volvo manual states for example that I should top up with their own coolant (type C - blue/green @ 50% water/50% coolant) but doesn't seem to give a specification for this that I could try to match elsewhere at less cost.

  Hi all I have a 53 plate Corsa with 69k on the clock and it is using coolant. I have to top up with coolant every 40 to 50 miles.(expansion tank empty). I can't see any external leaks at all under the car overnight. It has mayo under the oil cap and the oil is milky colour too.

  I would like some help on what my options are: 11 months after purchasing my brand new car from Ford there was a major coolant leak which led to the engine having to be replaced (it took 7 weeks to fix).  This was due to a faulty coolant pipe, and it was fixed under warranty. Approx 12 months later the car was brought back to Ford  under a general recall notice (to replace the faulty coolant pipe).

    A couple of years ago the engine cover managed to break and sheer off a little valve cap off the right side of the engine and set the warning for low coolant.  We bought a whole new piece and bolted it back in place and I topped the coolant up with water (naughty I know!). Right, this lasted a year and then the piece started to leak where it was bolted down so I would need to top back up every week (again using water).

  I'd be extremely grateful if anyone can clarify for me. I want to flush and replace the coolant on my 1.6 zetec. But can anyone clearly explain which is the heater hose that I disconnect and use to start refilling the coolant. Is it the one coming off the engine under the coil, or is it the the one that runs under the air filter, seems to have a join in the middle.

  Posted earlier re a 1993 1.1 Petrol Fiesta auto choke with cold start problems. Can anyone tell me 'exactly' where the coolant temperature sensor is on this car if indeed there is one because I cannot locate it having been round the coolant circuit/block now several times looking for any likely suspects with two leads coming from it.

  Brought back from garage and 100 miles on had exactly same smell, took back to garage and water bottle was full of oil. Had the oil coolant system cleaned and a new oil cooler fitted. Did 60 miles & smell re-appeared, back to garage, oil in coolant, coolant system flushed and had new seal fitted on oil cooler, did 60 miles, smell back, again oil in coolant.

  I got it scanned with a fancypants Bosch KTS-340 which gave me: Simtec 71 -------- 1 P0115 Coolant temperature sensor Radiator fan ctl. unit 3.0 ------- 3 44 Emission warning lamp (MIL) -------- Signal too small 2 Coolant temperature sensor ------- signal improbable 164 Coolant temperature sensor -------- signal improbable 164 Coolant temperature sensor -------- signal improbable To make matters worse, it seems to be intermittent.
