Second hand LPG cars - worth buying? 5 Jun 2005 (Forum)
In my quest to keep down the cost of motoring I'm interested to know if a S/H LPG conversion is a sensible choice. We have an LPG retailer 5 miles away, on a route we use. We do mixed motoring, but not often more than 35 miles at a time (hence my user name), as we also live close to a good train service. -
The old Fiat Croma 29 May 2005 (Forum)
He was going to scrap it, but before he does, is it likely to be of any value to owners of Lancia Themas or Alfa 164's for any shared bits? Or come to think, does the Croma itself have a following? Thanks -
Car Seat Comfort 25 May 2005 (Forum)
After 5 months of suffering discomfort and now back problems in my S reg Mondeo Verona, looks like I'll have to sell it. Two questions:- 1) Are there any companies who could replace the foam in the seat with something softer and more forgiving? Someone I spoke to said that modern car seats are injection moulded, so I reckon this is unlikely. 2) Can anyone recommend a suitable replacement? -
Trailer Suspension Advice 10 May 2005 (Forum)

One for Blue Haddock 2 May 2005 (Forum)
I must confess I found the previous Avensis boring but the new one is growing on me - the estate even more so. Are these 2.4's pricey or worth the money? This one is a saloon in a deep blue. It really looks the part. Cheers mate, -- Adam -
PSA HDi Weaknesses 16 Apr 2005 (Forum)
f=2&t=30766 , originally attributed to failure of the rubber metal pulley as in other threads. I'm now being told the pulley was not the problem and that the rocker(s) failed spontaneously. Workshop manager asked if I'd "read about this" (suspect he was taking the wotsit as I admitted my reliance on internet fora questioning earlier advice). Are rockers or any other part of the cam/valvegear a known weakness on this engine. -
Discussion: Best & Worst Film Car Chases 8 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Best: Ronin - through the streets in Paris (I think) - both the actual camera work, the stunts and the length of the chase make this my favourite. Worst: Fled (Laurence Fisbourne & Stephen Baldwin) - two guys on Ducati 916's not being able to outrun a big old cadillac or something similar - not exactly realistic. So, let's hear yours.... -

Auction Prices 10 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Three that really stood out value for money wise were a Xreg Omega 2.5 Cdx estate, 88000m, HSBC bank owned for £2000. 2001 Y reg Monde0 2.5 Zetec S, 22000m £5400 and a 2001 Y reg Mondeo 1.8 zetec, 36000m, £3600. There were loads of cars going through (time of year I expect) and it was very, very busy. -

I still can?t make my mind up about the Accord and have been looking at Ford Direct Mondeo Ghia X TDCI?s ? a lot of car for the money. However many of them are fitted with 18? wheels (upgrade from 17?). Has anyone any experience of this ? does the ride suffer, and does it tramline? -
Dealing with Dealers (Cont.... 5 Feb 2005 (Forum)
I have read with some dismay the posts regarding main dealers of most types. My son wants to change his MG ZR for a Mini Cooper S. Can anyone advise tactics? We were abused by the Rover dealer 18 months ago and bought from JamJar and last summer a Renault dealer was as bad as they come. The Saturday telegraph recently suggested actually selling to a used car dealer to keep the purchase as a separate transaction. -
Trying to trace an old car.Any ideas how 9 Dec 2004 (Forum)
When I was a kid I used to see a Lister Jaguar XJ-S registration number A502 OFO on my way to college in Hereford. Has anyone any idea on how I can legally trace it? I have tried the club and club website without luck. My interest in the car was rekindled when I bought an old car magazine at a car boot sale in the summer and found it was a roadtest vehicle in the eighties. -
There should be a law against it! 7 Nov 2004 (Forum)
It was a brillant evenings entertainment. The bangers consisted of Mk2 Granadas, Jags, Volvo 240/760's and a Rover P4. I've always had a soft spot for the P4 and it was a sad end for this one - although the old girl lasted longer than most in the Destruction Derby. There should be a law against it! -

The BackRoom Poll makes a return. 5 Aug 2004 (Forum)
The more observant of you may have noticed an extra forum has appeared. Following the success? of Big Brother\'s garage quiz, I have (painstakingly) brought the BackRoom Poll out of retirement. For the 1st week I have used an old question that Martyn posed as I want to test things to see if there are any bugs before starting other questions - one of which will be the Alfa v TVR vote. -
Tyre choice replace Goodyear NCT5 ? 29 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Need to replace the NCT5's on my Beetle soon, but looking for a better tyre in their place. Although good wear (got 60k out of the whole set, with a front/rear rotation a while back), the main problems with the Goodyears are excessive road noise (a problem I remember from Michelin Energy tyres, too). -
306 cabriolet tyre choice 19 Jul 2004 (Forum)
At the moment the two front tyres are at the indicator limit, the two rears have about 4mm on them. The spare is brand new. They are all Pirelli P6000's. I've read lots of negative comments on the Pirelli's about how difficult they are to balance and the noise they generate. I've thought about Goodyear Eagle NCT5 ZR's or Michelin Pilot Exhalto's. So i'm a bit confused. -
