  • 1986 BMW 318i Starter Motor (E30) 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Is there anything I can do to try and repair it or can I get one for a reasonable price from a scrap yard - if possible I want to try and keep the car running until it dies and don't want the starter motor packing up completely. Cheers Keith
  • Land Rover Discovery Sport - Land Rover Engine failed suddenly 26 Sep 2022 (Forum)
The Dealership has contacted the JLR to enquire if they would cover any costs. After a few weeks of to and fro and multiple questions, today, the Dealership has emailed us saying- “JLR will not be looking to contribute towards the repair. I believe this is due to lack of evidence as we cannot provide the oil filter from your vehicle, as this was missing from your car upon arrival” .
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 02 1.6 head gasket & cylinder head fault 16 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I paid for new radiator but head gasket covered under warranty. The gurgling noise never went away although no coolant was lost. Took the car back for verification of noise. Booked car in and although the air conditioning and heater matrix were checked no problems were found.
  • BMW X3 - Faulty car, dealer ignoring me 1 May 2024 (Forum)
I know I won't hear from the dealer, he is hoping I will just go away. I assume my next option would be small claims court? I don't have the money to repair the car at the moment, it would probably take me a couple of months. For now I have been avoiding driving the car, only using it when absolutely necessary.   Any advice would be most gratefully received.
  • Ford Focus CMAX 54 1.6 TDCi Zetec - Legal Advice - Dealer's warranty 25 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Couple of days back i was driving on M3 and the car started showing the Engine System Failure along with Steering Assist Failure. and the car didnt take gas. I rushed to my Mechanic and he opend the engine just to found that the Fuel ffilter never been changed, and the injectors are clogged up. he quoted me £650 just to re-condition the injectors i told my dealer that i am not going to pay this but he denied that injectors are not covered under warrenty.
  • New Vehicles After Sales Faults 19 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I said I was not happy to leave my 3 week old car in an Industrial Estate but his response was \"Well It Ain\'t Staying There\" - as you can see things were getting no better. The AA provided a rental car for 24hours, but dealer continued to refuse to cover this for any longer or offer a courtesy vehicle - legally they are not obliged to.
  • Ford Ka - cooling system and overheating 29 Dec 2013 (Forum)
Also this car has a warning light for overheating, however it means that the car can end up operating at a high temperature when there is a problem and the driver is unaware until the system finally runs out of coolant and the light comes on.
  • Vauxhall Vectra 1.7TD - cold starting problems 2 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Apparently, the fuel filter cover becomes porous after a few years, it's a common fault, blah, blah, blah. So, despite my doubts on this theory, I purchased a new one (~£140, includes the heater, a filter, etc), and sure enough, this cured the problem.
  • 20 limit in whole city - bold or misguided? 7 Nov 2020 (Forum)
Drivers used to a certain engine and road speed, driving in a particular gear ("I always drive in 3rd, don'tcha know?" - we know the type!) and covering certain A to B sections of a regular journey in the same time every day will get caught out. Locals and outsiders will react differently. People will forget. Journey times will take longer, tempers will get frayed.
  • Passat 2009 CR Bluemotion2 - Aux belt-->Cambelt--> Rocker-->Camshaft failure 26 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Q has anyone else heard of this happening?  I am shocked to say the least as I thought I was thoroughly maintaining my car. Q is it usual for main dealerships not to change the alternator belt at the same time as the Cambelt? I'm particularly disappointed as I saved up to buy the CR model that I knew would not then suffer from the expensive 'rounding off of the oil pump drive spindle' problem on previous models.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol - Main dealer negligence! 5 May 2012 (Forum)
I'm quite handy with a spanner and although I myself had been putting into the main dealer for servicing the last couple of times (I hate working on cars!) I couldn't stomach the bill for this one so decided to fix it myself. Imagine my surprise upon removing the cam cover to see the intake cam pulley ring gear cracked and half the toothed ring bent outwards by a fairly large amount!
  • Mercedes Diesel Timing Chain 21 Apr 2007 (Forum)
The small job of changing the O ring seals on the low pressure fuel pipes of a Mercedes diesel has turned into a big one. After changing the seals, I asked SWMBO to start the car while I worked the disconnected throttle lever on the injector pump. When the fuel got through, and the engine fired, it sounded more like something Fred Dibnah would be proud of than the nice smooth 6 cylinder rumble I was expecting to hear as reward for my work.
  • SAAB 9-5 Aero reverse gear baulks 22 Sep 2005 (Forum)
No apparent damage to the V70 - even to floor pan - beyond some of the SAAB's number plate reflective film on the tow ball cover.
  • New discs & pads for PUG 205 GTi 30 Mar 2005 (Forum)
I have been toying with the idea of replacing the pads and disks on my PUG. From the S/H I gather that the discs are genuine and have covered some 65k (genuine!) miles from new, while the pads were last replaced @ 35k. By reading through the forums here (and not wishing to re-hash old topics) and my own 'real life' driving experience, I accept that the PUG doesn't have the best of brakes.
  • One For Our Legal Team! 26 Sep 2002 (Forum)
My feeling is that this gentleman has been well and truly had but am aware that areas within airports are strictly Policed and fines levied so they must be covered under a particular statute/bye law. Anyone any ideas they would like to put in the pot. Andrew.
  • Alfa nostalgia 21 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I've never seen the old fellow run so fast for the extinguisher, and it worked first time - and for a dry powder jobbie that was a surprise. The shame was that the cam covers were still off and the powder went everywhere. I won't repeat what he said! I'd love to drive another one today. Ian (Fishpond move completed 16.40 today)
  • Jeep Grand Cherokee - Car dangerous 2 months after sale 19 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Now i want to know how the hell can the mot station allow this car to pass 2 months ago??? The seller said he'd only used the car for a year and sounded pretty genuine about everythingand also not knowing anything about cars....or a great play actor.. so now i'm left out of pocket with a car the garage said would be incredibly unadvisable to drive.
  • Skoda rapid - 2 years / 20k miles in a Rapid (HB) 29 Mar 2016 (Forum)
The central arm rest is also a throw back to cars of yesteryear (and appears to be identical to the one in my old 2002 Octavia Combi 4x4!!).     Overall I found the car to be refreshingly straightforwards.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 1.8 or 2.0 litre petrol, or 2.0 TDCI? 18 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy a used car for a friend who needs wheels, and the requirements point to a secondhand repmobile. Need a mile-mucher (25k-40kmiles pa) with a big covered boot (so not an estate), enough power to cope with fast A-roads as well as mways, and reasonable comfort (seats and noise and driving position, not electric toys).
  • Merging Road Tax and Vehicle Insurance 3 May 2005 (Forum)
The DVLA take a different view. They know exactly which cars are on the road, which cars have a valid Statutory Off Road Notice and can pounce on those whose Road Tax is overdue by 14 days, and seize the offending car if payment is not made. However, I am extremely worried about the number of cars on the roads without valid insurance for third party damage.
