Mondeo Noises 24 Feb 2003 (Forum)
It has done this since 26,000 miles when I bought it (now done 72,000.) I have replaced plugs and leads, cleaned the MAF sensor, checked all electrical connections and breather hoses. The car has full Ford history and all service parts have been changed, as they should. I had the car plugged into the Ford computer, which showed no fault codes and no available updates on the ECU software. -
Flushing oil and long journey 29 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I had thought that a good idea would be to put a flushing oil in the engine before I brought it down to Huddersfield (125 miles) and then do a full oil and filter change as part of a major service, which would consist of:- all filters points condenser plug leads battery etc. My main question is, what oil should I use? Can I use the STP treatment and still expect the oil to lubricate the engine for 120 odd miles? Or should I have an oil change done at one of the quick fit places and then change again when I get home? -
Electrolysis corrosion 7 Aug 2002 (Forum)
My scanner is on the blink so cannot reproduce the whole A4 sheet which details the simple test procedure for checking the coolant for an electrical charge but basically with a voltmeter on the range 0 -12v. with sensitivity of at least one-tenth of a volt with one test lead to battery ground and the other in the coolant (not touching any metal or the filler neck) Any voltage reading will indicate the presence of current through the coolant. A reading below 0.05volts is acceptable. -
My lousy Xantia 12 Jun 2002 (Forum)
All the warning lights come on but starter motor is dead. Youngest son arrives says battery done for. Hell it`s only 7 and a half years old !! Stuck jump leads on and off she went. Ran around a bit to charge battery. Problem is the red light that flashes when the alarm is armed now glows continuously with the ignition on or off but at least the screaming has stopped. -
POLO WARNING and more advice sought! 6 Mar 2002 (Forum)
1) DO NOT BUY AN OLD VW POLO WITH THE INTENTION OF HAVING A CHEAP CAR - the following is a list of breakages in 9 months, probably not exhaustive: -Radiator -Clutch -2 clutch cables -Brake pads, discs, cylinders -Tracking, very temperamental -Suspension components -Wheel bearings -Oil consumption and leaks EXCESSIVE DESPITE 140+ K -Exhaust: full system (blowing already after a month) -Fan belt -Ignition leads (POOR SERVICING by previous round-the-corner-use owner) -Latest: throttle cable spring, part-and-parcel of the carb - may need to replace carb if cheaper - was very scary as I was overtaking somebody and the revs shot well past maximum for about 10 secs before I could 'safely' turn off the engine to avoid seizure, then had to coast to a layby. -
Seasonal Lunacy Philippine Style 30 Dec 2001 (Forum)
First we had fake garbage collectors, uniforms, ID's and all, who politely appeared expecting their annual tips. THese were followed next day by the real ones who carried lead pipes, knives and other weapons in their search for the impostors, naturally teed off at having been cheated of their seasonal tips. Then we had fake Salvation Army people waving tins outside the malls. -
Citroen Xantia HDI fault. 7 Sep 2001 (Forum)
Haven't seen the car (belongs to a distant contact) but need to offer help. Have some ideas but don't want to lead you in a particular direction. ........In January 2001 I bought a new Xantia 2.0 HDI 110hp. The car when running OK is brilliant but there is a cloud on the horizon . We went to collect the car, and whilst we were being shown the ins and outs the car stopped and the engine management light came on , the car was taken back into the workshop . -
Drivetain slack and lurch.... 5 May 2001 (Forum)
The car's engine has also been checked by a tuning company who have made a few tweaks here or there. The oil, air filter, ignition leads and throttle switch have been replaced but..... .....everytime I'm in 1st or 2nd gear (it's occurs mostly in 2nd) and I accelerate quickly with half throttle of more, there seems a delay before the transmission "bites" and the car accelerates. -
Mercedes C350e - Airmatic suspension issue with 2016 C Class Merced 16 Sep 2021 (Forum)
I had understood that there is a single sensor for both the back wheeels but have been told on my one there are separate sensors for the left and right wheeels which also makes a sensor issue less likely. The other possibility was that it was a blead valve staying open when it shouldnt - my thinking is that the system was opening a valve to lower the suspension and that was sticking, leading to the read dropping completely. That would then lead to the compressor taking to long fault as it would be trying to bring up but the air put in goes straight out. However, the fact that the car was not warning when the system was too low the first 2 times it happened would suggest otherwise, unless, of course, it is both. -

Peugeot 405 GL 1991 (carb) - Engine Cooling fans not working 4 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I realised that some wire leads had been cut irrespective of their connections to the engine. There are three plugs hanging unused in the engine area. I was also given what seems like a thermistor with the new engine. I cannot tell whether it was part of the old engine or was part of the new engine setup.
