  The symptoms are: - when starting and driving cold the idle is fine - on some days the idle is fine - if I drive on a highway with more (throttle) the idle takes some time to settle down (but not over-revving) - it seems that after removing the battery and connecting it again the idle behaves fine for a few days What could it be, the computer?   i had it running but it takes a real long time to start and alot of the time i am having to use jump leads because the battery goes flat through turning it over to much I really need information as to whether I use a DTI gauge. any info would be really greatfull cheers shouting removed

  For a while it worked but then the hatch door wouldn't lock. As far as the immobiliser is concerned I took the battery for a charge & on replacing have been unable to get the alarm to switch off! What am I doing wrong? My guess is a new remote would help with the central locking but have no clue to the second issue!

  Hi, I'm having a bit of a problem! changed the battery in my key fob and now the car won't start, well its starts for about 3 seconds then cuts out, I was told it was a key fob issue so managed to get another one but I still have the same problem, I was then advised that I have to program the key fob, not sure how to do this, I have R reg diesel astra, can anyone help please, going a little mad here. thank you in advance, Darren

  On motorway doing 60/70 mph the Temp stays in the middle. I know the fan works when powered off the battery. Could it be the relay for the fan that is not working or is there another switch that should kick the fan in. I have traced the wires from the fan and they go to the fuse box in the engine bay this is why I thought it could be the relay.

  Also when the engine is running there is a clicking from behind the air vents above the stereo every so often. We've checked the battery and thats fine so dont know where to go from here. Any ideas would be very helpful, TIA

  I have been told by a very good friend of mine who also happens to be a Traffic Officer that small plastic "coke type" bottle are being filled with harmful and corrosive substances such as paint-stripper, brake fluid and battery acid then left in the road for unsuspecting motorists to run over. The outcome of this will be obvious to any serious motorist. There has been 5 reported cases this week in the area my pal works in and the Police suspect its a bunch of kids who are off school this week.

  The end (approx 50mm) without the connector, is blackened with carbon or oil deposits. The hose was located in the centre section of the engine compartment where the battery is located. I think the hose may relate to the operation of the fuel consumption computer, which now fluctuates erratically. Can anyone explain where/how I should reinstall the hose? Thanks.

  It has been unused for 4 months. Once in a while the car is started now and then and driven around the block. The battery went flat few weeks ago. Just got around to putting in a new one. The car starts with no problems and drives without problems apart from when you rev the engine (in neutral) and lift your foot off the accelerator the engine rev drops down to zero and hence the engine stops.

  Rather than fiddle about with the ignition switch, can anyone advise if the radio can be powered by bridging the wires so that the switchable power is also on constant? Is the stereo likely to drain the battery in standby? Are there any pitfalls/precautions? Many thanks Waino

  A friend has asked me to buy a solar trickle charger for her M reg Honda Concerto (that does 300 YES 300 mile between MOT,s) This is an attempt to try & extend the battery life/charge. Solar chargers currently available in maplins.co.uk for £24.99. She has told me that the Cigarette Lighter socket only heats up the cigarette lighter when the ignition is on. My question is does anyone know if the cigarette/acc socket on this vehicle works with the ignition off ?

  I brought a Saxo 1.6 VTR P reg 65,000 miles 2 weeks ago. Today The indicators stopped working and the battery light has come on. The electirc windows work intermittantly. The steering is heavy for a short distance then it returns to normal, at this point the radio and heaters also start to work. I took it to a garage and they said the electic ignition switch needs replacing (at first the said the alternator), at a cost of around £250.

  Have a small problem with my Mk2 1.6 auto (1989 F). Every now and then it just wont turn over to start. Not long had a vw service and battery so ill rule them out. The other day i did find a little puddle of water in the bulk head above the fuse box. The drain pipe was bloked with leaves and so on, but i have now cleared it. Does anyone think this may have something to do with my problem as water may of run down to the fuse box?????

  When the engine starts they go out, switch engine off they come back on. I've pulled the indicator relays (as they were easiest to find) to stop the battery going flat, I hope. Even with the indicator relays pulled, the green indicator light on the dash is still lit (not flashing). I'm going to play about with it tonight. I plan to pull the hazard switch and failing that I'm going to try unplugging the Alarm/Central locking control unit in the foot well.

  Started and ran OK Monday then yesterday turned over without firing and then not even that. Today I've fitted a new coil and a set of plug leads while charging the battery, but now no sign of life when the key is turned, even with a booster pack, so suspect either starter motor (Bosch) or relay. I don't have a Haynes or wiring diagram, can anyone please tell me where the relay is so I can check that before lashing out on a starter motor?

  He said it took them ages to find it because it was located somewhere under the engine!! and not in the normal fuse box under the steering column or the one next to the battery. Does anyone know where this may be? The alarm as been playing up so i suspect his may be blowing the fuse. Any help appreciated. Thanks Chris

  I recently purchased a Fiat Punto 55 (1.1L) N reg 91k miles for my sons birthday tommorrow 28/10 this being his first car.Yesterday I went to move it off the drive & it failed to start.I charged the battery overnight thinking this was the fault but when I refitted it today no joy.I decided to call the AA & it turned out to be a jammed starter.It was freed by a light tap with a hammer whilst firing the engine.My question is the starter likely to be a problem now it has failed once or should it be replaced.

  The central locking wouldn't work with either of my 2 remotes so I had to lock the doors manually. Any ideas??? Could it be the battery?

  It locks the car fine, but when I go to unlock the lights just flash, but the doors do not unlock. Does any one have any ideas? I have tired changing the battery in the fob but that has made no difference. I do not have a user manual for this car, nor can I find a reset procedure on the web. Any help would be great..cheers H ps: I still have my 306DT, the audi is the wife's.

  Bad points are: Broken aerial, a couple of light scrapes and dings, broken stereo head unit and one interior light not working. Might need a new battery too.
