• Ford Fiesta 2001 - Heater Control Valve 19 May 2018 (Forum)
    So my 2001 Ford fiesta was only blowing hot air, and after a bit of research I decided to replace the heater control valve.    So, I drained coolant, replaced valve and then refilled coolant.    The good news... I now have cold air and cold aircon!    Bad news... I have yet to get hot air through and the car is overheating.

  I live in a hot climate ,ambient temp here is around 35-37C the car doesn't overheats and the temp gauge is always just slightly above the middle when the engine reach its operating temp, when I enter the hidden menu I can view the coolant temp: so engine warms up until coolant temp reaches 89c and then I can see a drop in temp as the thermostat opens while driving at highway speeds or to say above  30-40 mph coolant temp is around 92-96c at very traffic or very slow driving coolant temp  can go up to 110c, radiator fan kicks in at 105c though so , i would appreciate if someone who have/had this car can tell me if this is normal and what their coolant temps are so i can compare to mine thanks in advance Harel

  Ok have a golf that's leaking coolant, had cambelt replaced as 20k done since last, and then put in a new water pump and cap When I say leaking it isn't noticeable I can't see any water and it is a tiny amount, it falls just below the minimum every week or so Cambelt was replaced 3weeks ago and it flashed up today check coolant for the first time in 3 weeks where it needed a small top up Obviously this is a sign of gasket but there is nothing to suggest it is this, no milky oil etc I was advised by the garage that it could be the coolant tank?

  Just got this car and noticed that the coolant reservoir is dirty with dried brown gunk around the sides.  Also the oil on the dipstick is a lighter brown than I'm used to seeing, viscosity seems normal though.   Is this likely a head gasket about to go and stop driving it now type scenario?

  have got micra 1986 k10 when car starts ticks over but as car warms up approx 3 minutes revs drop car stalls will not start till car has cooled down . have been told this is famous problem and to replace coolant temp sensor is this true and if so where do i locate said sensor in engine compartment

  My header tank is going from high to low in a week, I looked under the front of the car and there is a coolant leak coming down from behind the oil filter, very slowly dripping off the oil filter. My garage pressure tested the system to 1 bar and couldn't find a leak! 'I can't repair a leak I can't find' was his reply.

  hi is it normal to lose a small amout of coolant a year?about 1/2 to 2" in header tank over a year,i know that mg are known for hgf but mine has been done allready, ive had the car a year now and only had to top up twice maybe a inch a time over the year,no leaks no milky oil no oil loss runs perfect.any advice would be appriciated.

  Should it be blue or pink? The looklet just says L250. The coolant in there needs changing as its gone a rusty brown colour. Probably not changed as car has only done very low mileage. Appreciate any help or in a car this age does it matter so long as the anti freeze meets BS standards.

  At the beginning of August 08, my Ford dealer topped up my coolant level (the orange antifreeze) to the maximum mark. Since then the level has gone down to about 3/4 full. I am obviously concerned that I may have a leak and if not how else could the level go down ?

  Have a Rover 45 51 plate. About 2 weeks ago it overheated on a short motorway journey. Have topped up with coolant ever since but now seems to be drinking the stuff. Have been told its a possible radiator problem and to put some Radweld into it, though can't seem to find the obvious place to pour it into the radiator.

  I have a problem with the coolant indicator on my passat. Most of the time it indicates 90 after everything has warmed up. Sometimes it just sits at zero. I have found 2 post in the history of the forum indicating that this is either the thermostat failing or the sensor.

  My cooling fans[dual] was modified by the previous onwner and runs continuosly [1 speed] irrespective of coolant temperature. i need to rectify this. Does the XUD engine cooling fans run on two speeds and how can i rewired it. Many thanks in anticipation

  I had the cambelt changed on my Q2 1.4 TFSI {25000 miles} at JCT600 after the work was completed i drove away and lost all my coolant over a distance of 10+ miles. The dealer has checked the car and is saying a thermostat hose has split but because this is on the the opposite side of the engine they cannot take the blame. My car was running perfectly prior to having this work done and i have never topped up the coolant in the 3 years owing the car.

  I began smelling a strong acrid smell in the car, enough to burn my eyes and back of throat. I returned it to the VW garage and they agree about the fumes, and they also found the coolant to be black with what appears to be soot. They do not know the cause, although they seem to know it is unrelated to their previous work. They have sent the coolant fluid away for analysis. I cannot help feel it is related to their emissions update and EGR work.

  i was recently held up in traffic and with out any warning my car started to boil up ,no dashboard warning lights no audio warning ,I checked coolant level this was ok ,the engine coolant fan did not cut in .Having got the vehicle home I shorted out the coolant fan relay and the fan started to work I do not think the thermostat is at fault .i have accessed the hidden menu and the car runs at about 100 C ,I have sinned changed the engine coolant sensor my worry's are that this issue may occur again ant ideas would be appreciated.

  Just before Christmas i was driving the wifes mini when the heater suddenly started blowing cold air and the temp gauge started moving around erraticaly. upon investigation it appeared that the coolant level was low, took about a litre to top up. All has been fine but now the level has dropped again . No Mayo in the oil but coolant does look discolored. Is this looking like a head gasket failure?

  Since I bought my car about 6 years ago, the coolant has been a sort of brown colour, instead of pink. I've changed coolant lots of times, flushed it a number of times with water / flush until it all runs clear, but the brown colour always comes back.

  I had heard of a 'universal' coolant called Bluecol U which is supposed to be okay for topping up anything, but I can't find any stockists with it in my area or even close. Anybody any suggestions over what I might be able to use to safely top up?

  SWMBO's X -reg estate (sixty-odd thousand miles) has recently started to need its coolant level topping up - about half a cupful every fortnight, low mileage covered in that time. An inspection under the bonnet and under the car reveals nothing. (Mind you, the car stands on gravel.) All the hoses I can see and/or touch seem dry, with no trace of residue.
