  I enjoyed the spec offered in the Urban and especially appreciated the integration of the ICE system (Amundsen+) with the Bluetooth,Sat-nav, Maxidot and Park Assist. The DAB was most welcome and has opened my families eyes to the joys of Radio 4 extra and 5 live in stereo. The SD based MP3 player worked very well. I ran it with a 64 Gb SDXC card (formatted to FAT32) and found it especially suited to Audiobooks. The residual values on this occasion weren't great though, the car returning 65% of it’s new cost when traded in.

  forget though ? excellent) - the RDS Traffic announcements still work when listening to AM; the radio can be set to store the announcements so I can check the state of the M4 before joining it in morning and evening. - I?m still not sure what the enhanced multi-function computer gave me exactly, although I can alter the auto anti-hijack door locking/unlocking and central locking control of single/all doors and window opening via the menus, instead of having to visit the dealer

  Strangers have taken to tooting friendly greetings to me at traffic lights. I have a geekish tendency to get absorbed in the iPod/Radio/OBC interface when stopped. Ten seconds might go by where I have no idea that the lights have changed. I look up and think "Oh yeah" and notice that people have started driving around me, offering friendly advice behind their glass with their teeth showing.

  Allow the engine to idle naturally for a few seconds first: 10 seconds if already warm, 20 seconds if it’s been stood 2 hours or more and 30 seconds if it’s a frosty winters morning. What I do is get in, start up, then put my seatbelt on and check mirrors, doors, radio etc etc whilst the engine idles. Keep feet off all pedals. What this does is give the engine chance to get oil moving around all the vital parts under no load and thus minimise wear. It's especially beneficial to turbos, cams and cam chains, but also to bores and valve guides.

  More than 70 percent of hijackings in Gauteng now happen in the driveways of the victims' homes. To avoid this situation you need to be extra alert. About 2km from your home, switch off the car radio and concentrate on your surroundings. Are you being followed? Most hijackings are done to order. If they want your car you might be under surveillance. If you think you are being followed, drive past your home to see whether you continue to be followed.

Long article in Daily Mail page 19, 2/3 page showing 'Road Casualties Rise' as speed camera fines double to £25m, then 1/3 page on my case, with picture.

  Be on the lookout however for a "stooge" vehicle which may still be observing you. Professional carjackers will have two-way radios. If you have the time, stop frequently in these places, and see whether other vehicles appear to be responding to your move, i.e. could be following you. If you ply a regular route to and from work, school, the gym, shops etc, vary your time and route wherever/whenever you can.

  Anyway, you cannot select a function on the computer; you have to step sequentially through them all to get to the one you want. Miss it and you will have to go all the way around again. The radio has its own little switch arm on the steering column. Cheap, flimsy, difficult to see/find until you get used to it, but it has all the right functions. If I could have got comfortable in the seat, then I would think that the car is pretty good for long distance 70mph cruising.
