  • Honda Accord Saloon 2007 - Honda Accord - Rear Brake Wear 21 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I have an Accord that I bought in May 2008 at 12 months old. In February 2009 at 21000 miles I had a severe grating noise from the brakes and had to have Rear Discs and Pads fitted. The car has been in for a service this week and I was told that it needed these doing again.I cannot understand why the rear brakes are wearing so soon whilst the front ones are lasting much better On the previous occasion when this occurred I contacted Honda UK Customer Services as I had discovered that this was a common problem in the USA on the 2008 onwards (new model) Accord but they sent the usual bland reply and I got nowhere.
  • Sticky back brakes on a Polo? 19 Apr 2013 (Ask HJ)

  • Nissan Micra S 54 - Short brake pedal travel 12 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Have recently bought a Micra S 1.2 manual, 46000 on clock.  The problem I have is that the brake pedal seems to have a very short travel which means I have to slow down well in advance of junctions etc to save being propelled forward if I touch pedal too firmly.  Am experienced driver and never had this problem before.
  • 306 Hdi - Handbrake slipping 8 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I have posted about this problem before but still I am struggling. I have replaced all parts on the rear brakes on my 306 estate.  This has had new pads/discs (mintex) re-con calipers, brake fluid and handbrake cable etc. The brakes have been adjusted up properly as far as I know.  When I replaced the pads/discs I used copper grease to ensure they would adjust up properly.
  • Why won't my Honda Jazz's parking brake hold the car on a slope? 25 Jul 2010 (Ask HJ)
The parking brake on my Honda Jazz (58 plate, 9000 miles) does not hold the car on anything more than a modest uphill slope. The dealer has "adjusted"...
  • FIAT Doblo (2001 - ) - 07 1.3 Issue with topping up brake fluid 11 Jan 2010 (Forum)
My work van is leased so it doesn't get the attention it should get, anyway, driving along and the brake warning light comes on at the dashboard, although not all the time. Brakes work and feel fine by the way. Checked the reservoir and it was barely on minimum! Now the reservoir is a fairly simple affair, no wiring or anything attached to the cap, it's just a cap that screws on.
  • Renault Clio 1 Petrol (1991 - 1998) - 1997 1.2RL Brake and rear wiper problems 16 Jan 2009 (Forum)
My Renault Clio (R Reg 1.2RL old shape 37k) has recently developed this strange grinding noise from the rear passenger side when I touch the brakes. It is not the brake discs or shoes as I've had 2 different mechanics look at it and there is loads of life left on them. It seems to be a lot worse when its cold and wet, and seems to dissapear on dry days.
  • Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - 06 1.4 petrol brake noises 8 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I am a careful woman driver with IAM qualification and tyres are still the originals pointing to careful motoring and not heavy braking. Back brakes taken off and cleaned previously this proved not to be the cause. ALSO engine stop light was coming on and fan would stick on. this was corrected after several attempts by supplier.
  • astra 53 burning smell/hot o/s front 27 Oct 2006 (Forum)

  • tempted to drive into car in front 21 Jun 2006 (Forum)
i was wondering where does one stand if someone cuts you up and slams his brakes on. since he has taken up your braking distance you would probably run into him. who is at fault?
  • brake discs on 206 cc 9 Apr 2006 (Forum)
My g/f drove home with a 'funny noise' coming from the brakes. In the morning I had a look ad driver side...disc worn but drivable to garege (I thought) till I looked at passenger side. The disc is the twin vented type and one half has completely sheared off.
  • gap between brake and gas pedal 25 Oct 2005 (Forum)
However, now that I'm driving it for longer periods, I noticed something potentially unsafe!!!!!!! It's and auto, and when I press the brake pedal, the edge of my shoe sometimes is almost touching the left edge of the gas pedal. I must have driven 100 different automatics from small cars to luxury cars, and it's never been a problem.
  • Ammo's VR6 Question - lets try again 31 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Ammo's probably just pleased with his new car and wants help. Right - Ammo is concerned about his traction control or loss of braking control. My first thoughts are braking pressures on each wheel and make sure the ABS is not disconnected. Mine was on the Xantia and the light didn't show up. Ammo, get yourself down to ATS, I think they still do a free brake check, and ask them to check out the braking distribution on each wheel and compare it to what it should be.
  • Bus question for the legal eagles 6 Jul 2003 (Forum)
The foundation brakes were fine, but you always had to be aware that you were braking without a retarder as it requires extra effort. My question is - what would be the consequences to me personally if I had an accident and it was found out that I was driving a bus that I knew had a faulty retarder?
  • Brake Fluid - "Pumpin' or Blowin'"? 3 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Folks, I see from another thred that opinions are divided on the method of changing brake fluid. I am struggling to understand how simply topping up and pumping (with care with the pedal) would cause the brakes to subsequently be soft. Surely one stream of fluid is simply following another if the reservoir is kept topped up?
  • technical question - unwanted steering 24 Aug 2001 (Forum)
hello i have a problem with my car that when i brake the car trys to steer to the left, and it is a bit of a problem, especially on the motorway as it can catch you off guard. the car doesn't have abs or any fancy brake equipment, just a diagonally split system with discs and drums.
  • Vauxhall Astra - New Brake Pads/ Discs 7 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Any advice from anyone with any car/ mechanical knowledge would be a great help here. My wife took her car to a local garage for an MOT. It failed on a tyre and I quote - “service brake fluctuating front”. So two reasons. She queried what that would be to fix this and they stated they didn’t know until they investigated this. They would need to re- test the car to get it through its MOT and look at the brake fault then.
  • Brake Pedal Creep on Vauxhalls 21 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Nor can I imagine why anyone would design a system to do that! On the other hand, it seems that thousands of brand new Vauxhalls are being sold with brake pedals that sink "to the floor" within seconds, and NO ONE SEEMS TO NOTICE! This is the most bizarre problem I have come across in 48 years driving" I refuse to believe that anyone in his right mind would design a brake system to do this - quite apart from the safety and lack of confidence aspects, how can drivers control braking properly if the pedal keeps moving down - and what happens in a high speed stop, when the pedal hits the end of travel - inevitably taking some of the availble foot pressure - before the car stops?
