Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 2004 1.6 TDCi Rear brake pad replacement 19 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I need to change the rear brake pads on my bro-in-law's C-Max but he was advised that ABS/ECU needs to be 'told' that new pads have been fitted. Have worked on most systems but I don't have data for the C-Max especially as it has electric handbrake. -
MINI MINI One R50 (2001 - 2007) - [2003] 1.6 - Grinding noise /brakes 8 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Hi - My mini which has been serviced by main dealer from new has developed a 'grinding noise' when the brakes are applied. A service is due in 200 miles [mileage 54,000]. While the noise sounds like 'metal on metal' appearing that the pads may have worn out, the discs look ok, and there have been no associated warning lights appearing, to indicate that replacement pads are due. -
Last car to have drum brakes all round in the UK ? 25 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Having a discussion here about drum brakes; does anyone know when the last car that was marketed in the UK and had drums all round was available and what that car was ? I am assuming that if Trabants have disks all round that it wasn't marketed here and so wouldn't count. -

Triumph Dolomite 1300 Front Brakes 24 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Hello, We recently acquired a 1977 triumph Dolomite 1300, usual sort of thing, one elderly owner, garaged most of its life, etc. etc. Now that it has been pressed back into regular service it looks like the front brakes are binding on one side. I'm going to strip them down over the weekend, but I got to thinking that there could be something else more sinister wrong such as a sticking master cylinder. Any advice any of you have about where I should start looking for the problems as described ? -

Mercedes W140 - Brakes vibrate 11 Aug 2004 (Forum)
EVERY day when I start the car and take off, theres a very quiet noise, and I can feel a vibration in the brake pedal for a second or so. It's as if it's checking something. Just intrigued. Out of interest. PS I recommend Andy Gayle in Birmingham to all Mercedes owners. Full major service £240! Not Mercedes £700 plus. -
Xantia Rear Brake Change 13 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi I have a 95 1.8 SXI xantia 8v it needs new discs soon which i have contemplated doing myself but there is one problem from what i can see i have to take the caliper apart to remove the rear disc which in turn will mean bleeding it "but this is just a guess" can anyone tell me the procedure for replacing the discs does the car have to be set to highest suspension level as i wondered whether this would be wise due to the pressur in the pipes or does this not affect the braking system even thoug they are all run on the same hydraulic system, any help will be much appreciated. -
Mondeo ABS 4 Mar 2003 (Forum)
My '97 Mondeo estate (80,000 miles) has taken to veering mildly to the left on braking. This turns out to be a failure of the Fr RHS brake to operate properly, and it seems that the difference between the 2 front brake would lead to an MoT failure. After checking out the system, it seems that the problem is caused by a failure of the ABS control unit - which I'm told will cost £700 + labour i.e. best part of £1,000 to put right. -
VW brakes - genuine reason for price difference !? 14 Mar 2001 (Forum)
VW dealership quoted £520 (didn't even bother checking whether this included labour, but assumed it did!) Well known tyres / brakes / exhaust outfit quoted £223 (includes £30 for labour) all in. Obviously VW dealership would be using VW-approved parts and the labour will be more expensive, but is there something else I should know about? -
Brakes on a Passat 10 Mar 2001 (Forum)
I bought a 2nd hand Passat in November (20,000 miles, S reg). I got it from a VW dealer and thus have a year's warranty. Since I bought it the front nearside brake has been making a terrible grinding noise. Sounds like metal on metal. Despite the dealer changing the discs twice and the pads three times the noise still persists. They have even sent it to an independent garage who simply changed the pads and cleaned up some excess grease. -

I purchased this car yesterday from a garage 185 miles away yesterday.
