Changing Times 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Now, in her town alone, there are any number of Threes and Fives, just about any VAG offering you care to name (including a W12 six litre A8 as well as the expected Fabias and Octavias), the odd Merc, more and more Hondas and Nissans, and a few Volvo XC70s. Korean Cheapies are moving in on traditional Skoda territory, though Ford is conspicuous by almost total absence. Domestic building infrastructure still has a drab, neglected air to it, (though a fortune is being spent on public buildings it seems) and whatever has brought relative personal wealth in advance of EU membership has been massively spent on cars. -
US September car sales sink dramatically. 2 Oct 2008 (Forum)
German auto maker Daimler AG (DAI), a 19.9% stakeholder in Chrysler, has said it is in talks to sell out to Cerberus Capital Management LP, the private-equity giant that bought its 80.1% Chrysler stake a year ago. Meanwhile, Japan's Nissan posted a 37% September drop to 59,565 vehicles from 94,269 a year ago. Car sales fell 34%, while truck sales tumbled 42%. There is hope that falling oil prices will help boost auto sales, notably pickup trucks and SUVs, and a $25 billion low-interest loan program approved by President Bush on Tuesday also has given some hope to auto makers. -
Van owners: LPG is dying, let's talk biomethane! 24 Mar 2024 (Forum)
Are there many people here interested in LPG's problems? I'm no expert, but here's my take. I'm interested because I have a petrol Nissan Elgrand people carrier and want to live in it, criss-cross Europe in it, be kind to the climate and not spend too much on fuel. LPG sales at filling stations are so tiny that filling station owners are removing LPG pumps to make space for EV chargers. -
Hyundai i20 1.2SE - Experience 9 Jun 2019 (Forum)
However in my experience I found that the excellent warranty wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. Have owned various Fords, Nissans, VW, Renaults (over 32 years) and this is the only car to give any significant trouble. Looking around online I see various people have the same issues with i10 and i20 clutches and despite the replacement of clutches and flywheels, the problems persist with these cars. -
All T/C Autos aren't made equal.. 16 Jan 2019 (Forum)
ZF appear to vary by application for obvious reasons, too much to quantify really although i'd sooner have an Aisin. Jatco (Nissan) used to be fairly good, not so much these days, particularly the CVTs which keep blowing! I have no real idea about Hyundai/Kia gearboxes, but perhaps that's a sign they're doing quite well with their home-grown gearboxes. -
When a Yaris won't do... 16 May 2018 (Forum)
So, we'd almost certainly be looking at something "chunky" as she calls it if we were replace the Nissan. Does the panel think we should just keep the current car as it's not showing any signs of being problematic yet, or bail out and buy a new or new-ish replacement? If the latter, what do you think we should we be looking at given the criteria of "chunky" and reliable? -
Help with choice please. 12 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I do intend to service appropriately ect. I have had a good few cars for hire while making this choice...Nissan Juke (awful!), Hyundai I10 (nice little car but don't feel it is me), Ford Focus estate (too big), fiesta ecoboost (felt it almost had too much energy for me) and the fiesta 1.25 (nice solid drive) I also had a short test drive in a Yaris but not sure about that one, I don't like the big X on the front really. -
DPF Filters - Just how bad are they? 14 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I started out with quite a good range of choices when I was looking for a diesel such as the Mitsubishi Outlander, Nissan X-Trail, Ford Kuga and also a Honda CRV diesel but after reading about the perils of a DPF when journeys are quite short, I decided that I needed to avoid anything with one fitted. This has obviously reduced my options by quite a lot and I'm now going to have to pay the price in fuel costs. -
MX5 MK3 / 3.5 - MX5 MK3 / 3.5 Bike rack / tow bar ? 22 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Hi HJ Forum folks, we’re considering a 2.0 Mazda MX 5 tin top, circa 2010 – 2012 as our second car, so something a bit different to our main car which is a Nissan 350z engined Renault Grand Espace Initiale. We really want to be able to occasionally carry 2 road bikes with the MX 5. -
Sorry, it's a 'what car should I get' post! 1 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Saved up 4k (to include insurance, parking permit, car seats etc) so we have about 3k to spend on a car (test drove a nissan note the other day as an example). However, my FiL has suggested that we get something for about 1k and have plenty of spare cash incase something goes wrong or to have the money for my husband to learn to drive. -
Advice for next car please... 15 May 2012 (Forum)
Budget is around £5-6k and I'm hoping for nothing more than about 4 years old so I'm likely to get 8 years or so out of it. I've considered the Honda Jazz, latest Fiesta, Skoda Fabia, Mitsubishi Colt and Nissan Note. My gut feeling is that the Jazz will be the best bet but the new model may be out of my price range. I'm not sure how much difference there is between the versions but the new one seems much better space-wise and I gather is a better drive. -

Toyota - 97 3000 Which battery charger for Toyota Hiace? 17 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I don't mind if it's a bit slow, but I would like something which I could also use on my car (1800cc Nissan Almera). (BTW, I do have a mains hook-up for the van's leisure battery, but that doesn't charge the engine-battery, so it's a separate issue, and not a problem). -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 07 1.8 DMF again and vehicle decision 12 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Above all, I want to be get something that will be reliable for as many years as possible. I also have a scrappage vehicle, but the only new small vehicle big enough, the Nissan Note, can't take a proper spare wheel and anyway comes in just a little too expensive. Older ones are higher car tax, so I've moved up in vehicle size to Focus or Skoda Octavia. I'm waiting to have a test drive in an Octavia. -
My dad is back to buying a car, so... 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
So far the cars that spring to mind are : Skoda Fabia 1.6 estate, Chevy Lacetti( its so cheap ), Nissan Note, Renault Clio Tourer, Seat Ibiza, Hyundai Matrix, Kia Ceed, VW Polo. Some are just big superminis but they come so big these days they might do the job. He stated he isnt interested in performance, handling or badge, just a pleasent ownership experience and a car that will last him ten years or so ( he reckons thats what he has left! -
Involved in accident - Insurance may write-off 22 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Since the only damage to my car was some minor scratches, should I have reported it to my insurance company in the first place? I value my car at about £2000 (its a Y reg Nissan Almera Activ with 67K miles on the clock and in good condition). Whats the chance of them writing my car off and can I force them to repair it even though it wasnt my fault? And if they do write my car off, could I claim compensation from the other driver for the inconvenience he has caused me because of the accident since I use the car to commute and its also the only car in the household? -
Volkswagen Golf V estate (2007 - ) - 10,000 mile report 18 Mar 2008 (Forum)
BOO Noisier than some rivals (though much quieter than the B-class), but the noise is only really noticeable on hard acceleration. It's much quieter and more relaxed at motorway speeds than the petrol 1.6 Nissan Tiida we hired recently in South Africa. VW need to copy some of the newer designs for folding the rear seats. They fold flat (unforgiveable in an estate if they don't) but you have to remove the headrests first. -
Towing - common fail D or petrol v costs 19 Jun 2007 (Forum)
You could say that I need an engine to work hard for me. I had previously considered something like a Nissan X-trail, but not that Diesel with those turbos (I'd clearly need two or three new turbos each year). Anyone any experience of the 2.5 petrol? ( I can't see the 2 litre petrol doing the job for me). -
My Almera brakes are worn out already 2 Dec 2006 (Forum)
And next time the ambulance will have to wait until I have time to slow to crawl speed before turning in. However, the bad news is that the Nissan dealer tells me that my front and rear brake disks are badly corroded and worn, and need replacing: the bill (with pads and labour) looks likely to top £400. Ouch! If they need replacing, then it has to be done, But why have they worn out at only 23,000 miles? -
