  I've followed the instructions to the letter, but something odd happened, and now I'm struggling. I took the lid off the alarm box, and removed the internal battery. I then removed the inline fuse from the live feed. So far so good. I located the two green tagged "loop wires" (not used on this bike, and taped up separately). I then joined them using a block connector, and ran a wire from this block connector to the battery +ve terminal.

  That the problem is so unpredictable is more of a pain than anything else - it means my wife is scared to take the kids out in it. I am assuming it is a battery / alternator issue but then i'm no expert when it comes to these matters so wondered if someone here might be able to suggest another possible cause? Would a new battery be worth a shot? Insist that the garage replace the alternator under the warranty?

  I cleaned my engine and some water went into the fuse compartment then the car didn't start so I swapped the heating and fan relay with the start relay...

  It was later decided that this was because this warning light meant that the alternator was no longer charging the battery and that the engine was running solely off the battery- hence the inevitable break down shortly after the light came on because the battery was completely flat. This light did occasionally go out of its own accord before the car broke down.

  Power to the ignition switch is good, as is continuity through the switch I'm getting 12 volts at PIN 3 of the 5-way plug in connector to the preheat relay, only 9.5 volts to PIN 4 when cranking.. (Both those come from the ignition switch) I'm getting battery voltage across the two eyelet connectors to the relay which are the power in from the battery and power out to the glow plugs. I'm getting 10.5 - 11 volts at each of the glow plugs, and my test bulb lights when I connect it between the feed wire to the glow plugs and plug 2.
