Rumble Strips+ Car Radios 2 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Do you think that the vibrations from these rumble strips could have caused the damage to the stereo? Even at a 40mph the car vibrates considerably when I pass over the strips. P.S. I bought myself a new Panasonic CQ-RDP151N- it was only £90 (normally I worry about buying anything described as "entry level") but the sound quality is exceptional, one hundred times better than on my old "Pony" -
Peugeot 405 - falling to bits 12 Jul 2001 (Forum)
This is becoming unbearable, the dealer always does his best to replace the parts which have broken, but the car is only a year old, what will it be like in 5 years time ? Should I get rid of it now and buy a Passat ? How do they get away with it ? -
Mazda Mazda 5 7-str (2005 - 2010) - Mini-test of facelift Mazda 5 4 Jan 2009 (Forum)
The main difference is the additional of a five speed autobox instead of a four speed. (In the UK, the old model had no automatic and I think held up sales). The car we had over the Christmas break was superb. We did about 1,000 miles including a long drive from the north through the Negev desert to the Red Sea resort of Eilat. -
Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 - Premium Unleaded Fuel 2 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Dont Overlook Possible Savings on Fuel!!!! Purchased a Used Corsa 1.2 from a Dealer 7 months ago, 5 Yrs old, 25k on the clock. In the first 6 months of having the car the most i got out of a Tank was 260 miles, all around Town Driving. I thought this was pretty rubbish for a small engined car. I looked around online, interested in how i could get better mpg from my car. -
Kiev car life 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
In fact, whilst walking the dog on sunday morning I watched one old boy servicing his 25+year old Lada estate after its winter sajourn under a balcony - never knew a hammer had so many uses! -
Car crime 16 Oct 2013 (Forum)
We had our personal first episode of car crime in High Peak today. When I went out to the car I found that I'd carelessly omitted to lock it last night. When I opened it I saw that the collection of old petrol receipts that I keep in the cupholder in the centre console had been taken out and sorted, some on the driver's seat and some on the passenger's seat. -

Nissan Almera it is. Internet purchase? 19 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Hello again all, Have been out in the cars for a spot of test driving following my earlier thread: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=2&t=25310. Basically, the Nissan Almera has won hands down. Sure, it\'s an old-man car which a 25 and 22 year old really shouldn\'t be considering as their main car, but was highly impressed with the equipment in the SE that I drove, but let\'s be honest, it doesn\'t take much to impress me having owned my P reg Civic for three years now. -
Renault Clio 1.5 dci - Clio alternator 23 Jan 2024 (Forum)
I have my Clio booked in to have the alternator changed next week. I'm trying to find a recon unit. The garage told me I need the part number from the old one as there are several possibilities, however Autodoc online found me an alternator after asking for the car's VIN. Should I trust Autodoc, or wait for the part number from the original? -
Child safety - Hanging out the window... 11 May 2022 (Forum)
Sunday, driving to the Gym, and at the first roundabout saw what looked like a 6 year old standing on the back seat with head and shoulders out of the car. behind daddy who was driving. At the next roundabout, pulled alongside and politely informed driver that his child was in danger.. 40 mph limit by the way. -
Loveley day out - RAF Museum Hendon 15 Dec 2021 (Forum)
Walking around the Lancaster, and the Avro Vulcan was a joy, and seeing in the flesh the various smaller planes that feature in some of the books i have been reading over the years was intersesting too. a few old cars and support vehicles to see as well, also a lot of" modern" kit, Lightnings etc on show. And all currently free. -
Toyota Verso - Toyota Service 12 Dec 2021 (Forum)
I normally have it done at a Toyota specialist, however I am aware the main dealer now gives a rolling warranty if serviced by them. Cost with the dealer is £190 versus around £115 with the Indy. So is it worth the extra? The car has 66k and is coming 7 years old. It has been very reliable over the past 5 years of ownership. -
Ford Fiesta 2012 - Retro-fit Parking sensors advice please 4 Nov 2021 (Forum)
Following a good friends' unfortunate incident involving a car park bollard, I'd be obliged if any members of the Forum could either: Recommend a good Auto Electrician in or near Bingley, West Yorkshire, who will supply and fit Parking Sensors to a 9 year old Fiesta 1.0 Zetec, or... -
Toyota Yaris Mk 1 - Best cheap small hatchback 25 Oct 2021 (Forum)
Just off to pick up DIL s Yaris auto after an mot and service. Its 22 years old and a Mk 1 built in Japan and it passed ok apart from a replacement wiper blade. These early examples are really amazing and must set the standard for a cheap sub £1000 first car. Even HJ himself chose one for his mum! -
Any - PAS fluid - change? 20 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I can't find any suggestion that routine maintenance should include changing PAS fluid. My Pug 306 is now 25 years old, and I'm sure auto-transmission fluid (the same stuff) would have been replaced during that time. I doubt that will have happened to this car, though it has been properly serviced. Of course PAS fluid doesn't get hot during use, so any suggestions ? -
Honestjohn’s Motoring Agony Column 08-02-2020 Part 2 15 Feb 2020 (Forum)
“Scrubbers” The cure for crabbing C43’s is switch to 18” wheels. MB paid for mine when I complained about the behaviour of the car on 19s. They provided the alternate fitment MB wheels and tyres FOC. I still have them as the new owner of my 3yr old C43 preferred the look of the original fit 19’s.... I am open to offers! -
KIA Venga 2 1.4 petrol manual - 9 months on 6000 miles 30 Oct 2016 (Forum)
This might be the most boring and nicest update at the same time. Car absolutely faultless. Bags of room, comfortable and excellent driving position. Fuel economy acceptable. doing house renovation has carried 8 foot fence posts, lots of bags of post mix. taking the old flooring to the recycling etc etc. -
Fiat Croma - Child seat 10 May 2016 (Forum)
My wife wants to take her 28 months old great-niece somewhere, and is going to borrow a proper child seat with which to carry her. I said that although the proper car seat is a good idea, she could probably use the pull down section in the centre of the rear seat, which has its own seat belt.
