Minor dings and scratches on secondhand cars 28 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I am thinking here of 1 to 3 year old cars from main dealers. I assume, if you go down the repair route, that you get it in writing before completion? Thanks for any advice, T. p.s. Same question re tyres or marks on interior plastics or fabrics? -
Buying imports from Channel Islands 25 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I'm very tempted to buy a car from a dealer who imports 'nearly new' cars (just a few months old) from the Channel Islands. They are apparently used mainly as hire cars and have just a few thou miles on the clock, they come with the balance of the manufacturers warranty (so usually about 2 to 2.5 years) and the dealer registers and supplies UK plates. -
Renault Modus (2004 - ) - 04 1.5dci Clutch Slip? 23 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Could it be a poorly adjusted clutch (e.g. it's not been released fully when the foot is off the pedal)? . Does this car have a DMF and is this an early sign of it's impending failure? Car is only 3.5 years old and with just under 30k on the clock. -

SORN cannot be backdated? 15 Dec 2004 (Forum)
I have just been reading the DVLA document New Car Tax Rules. It says that SORN lasts 12 months, but apparently it cannot be transferred to a new owner, unlike car tax. So if I buy a SORNed car I must immediately SORN it myself. There is the problem. -
Running & Servicing Euro LH Car in GB 14 May 2004 (Forum)
Apart from the various import/tax etc things, what are the issues with getting a LH drive VW serviced here - are any of the bits specifically for left-hand drive cars, and therefore going to make a cheap to buy car expensive to run ?! -
One for the insurance wizzos 26 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I was rear-ended in a queue of traffic in my company car yesterday by a young lad in an old Jag. Not my fault, reported it to our accident management folks so it will all get sorted out OK. But, I have two other insurance policies in my name, one for my son's car with me as the policyholder & him as the main driver and the other a classic car policy on the Commer. -

Shaks Specialist Cars 18 May 2012 (Forum)
Hi there guys Have been looking around lately for a very nice car and was wondering if you guys could help. Have seen the car I'd want from a place called Shaks Specialist Cars based up North, but have always bought cars from auction. Wanted to basically know, if you guys have any idea, if these kinds of cars of theirs are picked up from auctions as many of these are superb low mileage examples of very sought after cars and if this is the case I could not only save myself a few bob but also resume my old part time business of exporting cars. -
SEAT Leon Cupra - Mot passed, shouldn't of. Caused accident. 13 Jan 2023 (Forum)
Hi all, looking for advice. My car passed its MOT less than two months ago, only advisories were a couple tyres. Driving yesterday with the wife and 7 month old baby in the car, and the wheel got dragged underneath the car as the wishbone was so severely corroded it failed and snapped. -
Any car auctions since Covid open to the public 31 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Got a friend who wants another 0-12 month old car for the daily commute into London, looking at another 108/C1/Aygo (their current C1 turned 7 this week and is starting to have a few issues in the MOT) or an alternative small city car. I have told him there is little value in auctions as a private buyer due to the excessive buyer fees. -

Alternatives to EU made cars 8 Sep 2019 (Forum)
For the past 25 years I have driven BMW and Mercedes cars. Normally buying new and selling at 3-4 years old. Back in May I ordered a new MB C220d AMG Line for September delivery, however earlier this month I cancelled the order. The reason for this is the disgusting way that EU countries behave towards the UK. -

Nissan Juke - DVLA threatening court for their mistake in 2015 6 Mar 2017 (Forum)
I have received a letter from the DVLA today, ordinary post, not recorded or registered, asking for repayment of £241.66 (allegedly) paid to me in error in 2015. I have no recollection of this but I did change my car and my husbands car around then so may have had some car tax refunded but there was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing taxing the new cars and claiming back from old cars going on so I didn't take much notice to be honest. -
Citroen C5 - Tax expiry vs SORN 5 Dec 2015 (Forum)
These are maybe a month or two old which I suppose is understandable, but one car I looked at has an expired date of 10 months ago. Does this mean the car's been off the road for that long - and should I be concerned by that? I'm just looking for a normal car, not a classic or anything like that. -
Fiat Punto Evo - Car Soaking Wet Inside 3 Feb 2014 (Forum)
i have a 61 plate fiat punto and having the same problem, it was always wetter in the passenger rear footwell but today decided to lift the carpets and seats and found the passenger front footwell was saturated in water, sitting in the car tonight when it was pouring rain looking for leaks and found water coming in at a seam weld of the body in the inner wing. The car is just over 2 years old, bought brand new at the start of January 2012. -
