Dealing with untaxed car parked on our land. 30 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hi, In our village the parish council owns various bits of land and on some of these we allow residents to park. One resident has left an untaxed, unmot'ed mini (and it isnt going to get an mot in the state its in) on this land. Now parking is in short supply, and we have told the resident to remove this vehicle because we do not want scrap vehicles on our land. -
dangerous cars seen on the road 26 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I was following a K reg Mini on the way home this evening and something looked odd about it. The car just didn't sit right on the road. I could see along the drivers side of the car. It soon became apparent after the driver changed gears. -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 99 1.2 ECU Light comes on on long fast journeys 4 Mar 2009 (Forum)
It doesn't do it on short low speed journeys though. This has been happening for several weeks now. I have given it a mini service....changed plugs, air filter and oil. She took it to a garage for them to look at and they claimed it was the Lambda Sensor, and changed it.....but the problem is still happening. Apart from taking it back to the garage (which we will do), does anyone have any ideas why this may be happening? -
'Cool' car for 17 year old girl 30 May 2008 (Forum)
My own thoughts were along the lines of an old LandRover or Almera. Many, many years ago I was over the moon to buy my own clapped out Mini Clubman when I was her age...any suggestions for a reliable first car with the all important 'street cred'...how times have changed. Doubtless minor bumps and scrapes will ensue. -
FIAT Grande Punto (2006 - 2009) - Turned away by my local dealer..... 9 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I couldn't get any more sense out of the girl on the phone, and she gave me the names of two other local dealers. This is my first new car since 1965 ( a MINI COOPER. LMB 472C £590) and I'm somewhat taken aback to find a Franchised dealer just saying "we can't do it, go somewhere else". Should I just "go somewhere else" or try contacting FIAT UK? -
Insurance for Athiests 30 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Watching the Welsh news this morning they had an item about a mini tornado which struck a village whose name escapes me. One guy being interviewed said the families cars had suffered about £15000 worth of damage between them, but the insurance company was already starting to mutter about Acts of God, which are excluded from cover. -
Battery for 1957 Ford Anglia 100E 3 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I need to find the battery code for a 1957 Ford Anglia 100E that I've just purchased (NOT to be confused with later, reverse window Harry Potter type). Or maybe someone just knows what will fit (it must have the round terminals; an old type Mini one would suffice but at just over 5 inches wide it's a little to narrow and needs packing out; I've got about 6.5 inches to play with - ooh err missus!). Any help or suggestions gratefully received - I was hoping to find such a catalogue on the web, but no luck so far (it's not easy deciding what to search for). -
Driving in Italian lakes - tips?? 28 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Right, this Friday I'm jetting off to Milan for a mini Italian road trip to take in some sights and cool drives. I hope to hire something like an Alfa 147 if possible. I'm going from Bergamo to Como, then staying at Lezzeno. Next, driving across to Garda staying at Desenzano del Garda, finally driving down to Maranello to check out the Ferrari factory, and staying in Salsomaggiore Terme, before flying back from Parma. -
Part-ex question 5 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, I have just done a deal on a Mini Cooper S from a main dealer and have agreed a part-ex value subject to visual inspection etc, no problems there as car is as described. Part-ex is a 52 plate scenic and the deal they have given me is about £750 less than I would have expected. -
Breakdown service 18 May 2005 (Forum)
Hi all, I'm just about to get the Mini and have sorted out the classic insurance (thanks to a useful thread on here!). Now need to organise breakdown cover, but I notice that most of them now have different terms on the "relay" type product - If we can't fix your car at the roadside we'll take you to a garage. -
Tyre Wear 1 May 2005 (Forum)
Not complaining, merely commenting! That said years ago a pal scrubbed out a set of front cross ply tyres on a Mini-van in 1,500 miles - driven vigorously on minor roads in Pembrokeshire. Does anyone get high mileage these days? -
Selling an old car 2 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Desperately need to sell our 1983 mini, but heard so many horror stories recently about private sales going wrong I'm really worried. Been several cases recently where sellers have given their address to potential buyers, only to find they dont turn up at the arranged time .... but turn up at a later date to just take the car (or any other sitting on the drive for that matter). -
Pregnancy & Air bags 2 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Does anyone have an idea of the best way round this, or if it really is the risk that it appears. -- Lee MINI adventure in progress -
'93 Polo Crunchy Gears 2 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi all, For the first time the other day, the car decided to crunch its gears (no it was not me). Coming up to a mini roundabout, I had decided I was going to stop. So, just befor the car comes to rest, I selected 1st but it was as if I had not depressed the clutch, so I mangaed to select first but not after a good crunch and grind (wince). -
Cute picanto 25 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Impressed, particulary with price, spec and headroom. One of the few small cars i can fit into. Against - tiny boot which rivals the mini, also no spare tyre! She tends to keep cars for 6 years, and while she aint in a rush to sell her current car, she does need something a little more reliable. Just wondering anyone elses opinion on what they have seen? -
What's in a name 14 Feb 2004 (Forum)
The same could be said about the Fiat Uno/Punto, Cavalier/Vectra and many others. We then have models named after previously successful models eg Mini, Rover 75 etc. Obviously the decision to change, retain or re-introduce the model name is a marketing decision; but are the motoring public gullible enough to buy, or not, simply by the name on the boot? -
What Fun for £20K? 26 Jan 2004 (Forum)
It'll probably need to be new unless there's a particularly tempting reason for going second-hand. In the running at the moment is the Mini Cooper S. A possibility is the Mazda RX-8 (though some reports say the rear seating is too small). I'm going to suggest also the Saab 9-3 2.0 Aero HOT as I've just seen it for under £20k on this website. -
Free-revving engines 19 May 2003 (Forum)
Are Vauxhall engines generally classed as free-revving for example, or what about the engines in the new MINIs? I drive a Cooper S (not allowed to rev it yet though, only done 1000 miles!)! Honda engines seem to be generally classed as free-revving…..but what does it mean? Thanks everyone, Andrew. -
Self drive car transporter - help! 25 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Despite Volvoman's thread, I don't want to drive illegally. I have managed to source a very, very cheap Mini in London. A friend wants to restore the car in Wales. Unfortunately it has no MoT and only a week's tax, so it needs to be moved quickly, and not under its own power. I think, on balance, I'd prefer to drive a 3.5 tonne Transit than tow a trailer, although as my car has a tow hitch, I could do either, assuming my standard car licence is valid. -
No such thing as a bad new car? 31 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I have had a go in a couple recently that I would categorise as having design flaws bad enough to ruin the car. 206cc - The roof is a costly failure waiting to happen. I have even seen one that has never been in an accident that has a twisted roof. Mini with CVT transmision (Note: I am knocking the CVT version only) It's jerky, has little standing start acceleration, can be really thristy (under 20 mpg) and must be the only automatic that feels like it's going to stall!
