Honda CR-V Hybrid - Disconcerting drive 2 Sep 2020 (Forum)
I've passed my Toyota Verso on to son-in-law (his 17yr old Skoda Octavia estate no longer economical to keep running) and this evening taken delivery of a CR-V Hybrid. It's my first experience (in more than 50 yr driving) of a hybrid - or for that matter an automatic - and I think there may be rather a learning curve! -
Chevy 250 straight 6 30 Jun 2020 (Forum)
It has the stock carb, intake, exhaust, all that which I plan to rebuild all that and keep it original. But, as far as internals go, what should I do? It runs well as is. Did cars in 1967 still run on leaded gas? If so, what do I need to do to convert it over to unleaded? What about the crankshaft, you're supposed to use zinc additive to protect the lobes or something, is there anything I can do about that? -
Daihatsu Skywing - Getting air out of the cooling system 9 Oct 2019 (Forum)
Thought I'd blown the head gasket but it stopped eventually On refil I ran it with a funnel jammed in the radiator fill which coolant could expand into, and stopped after the fan had run for a couple of minutes. Obviously not good enough. More thorough procedures I can think of include::- (a Running it untill the coolant boils, disabling the fan if necessary. This will hopefully drive off any trapped air, but could risk damage and/or injury. -

Hi folks, My car just died on me today. I was coming up a hill on the way home and decided to give it a little extra 'juice' as the road was empty. Got... -
Toyota Verso 1.8 Valvematic 2010 - Limp mode cured by Italian Tune up 24 Jul 2018 (Forum)
AA man confirmed Possible wheel Sensor issues and camshaft sensor issues from computer readout but having read many Forums on false reading and high cost potential repairs to fix a problem that isn’t there decided to take car on it’s high Rev journey for several days only to find out the computer warnings disappeared.Car has now done further 850 miles, since initial computer warning and is running like a dream . Performance has always been good but now realise cars needs a good regular high rev run to clear out carbon etc from enginge and injectors . Hope this helps others who see Dreaded Engine Warning Lights...Current mileage 49000. -
Vauxhall Combo 1.7 Di - 2004 - fuel blockage / intermittent Black smoke 24 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Whilst travelling on the A12, I decided to put in forth and give it a good run. Then the 'service / transmission' warning light came on. It has since disappeard when ignition is switched on (??) It seems to me that it could be the EGR valve or Injectors that need attention, but why does no mechanic seem to agree with me ? -
Peugeot 307 - Grinding noise when trying to start - Peugeot 307 14 Sep 2016 (Forum)
Whilst at the petrol station I turned the ignition key and this grinding noise appeared and I thought the engine was still running but then realised it wasn't, but it was the same noise as if the car was already running. The car started the second time and it got me home. A little later at home, I tried to start it again and this grinding noise appeared again and this time the starter motor wouldn't turn over, but on the second time a little later on, it did turn the starter motor and the car started. -
Citroen C1 - Water pump replacement as a precaution? 24 May 2016 (Forum)
Car seems to be running nicely, no grinding noises like I've read about in the case of pump failure. Coolant level is fine and it's never over heated. Just seems a pricey thing to replace if there's no set mileage in the service schedule for replacement. -
Any - Advice needed to buy first car in the UK 2 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I am searching online for a while now to find which car is best for me, I drove for ten years but not in the UK, and I found this forums very promising. I am looking for a cheap to run car, I do care about the size and look of the car as well, so basically I am not interested in very small cars like old ford fiesta or yaris. Mpg is important for me as well as other run costs and insurance. -
VW Polo 59 Reg 1.2 Petrol 30,000 miles - Engine stalls/nearly stalls at idle when cold 12 Dec 2015 (Forum)
When the engine is turned on the revs fluctuate from around 2500 to 200 rpm, sometimes it stalls sometimes it sorts itself after leaving the engine to warm up.m this happened about 3 times last winter but spring came and the problem went away. Now the weather is cold again the same problem has returned. I have to leave the engine running for 3 mins before the revs go to normal. I have checked for a vacuum leak but I cannot see or feel any issues with the pipe. I have been running the fuel down to nearly 0 for the past 18 months so I am thinking I may need to replace the fuel filter? -
Skoda Octavia - Skoda 1.9 TDI 2003. Limp mode. Turbo problem 22 Feb 2015 (Forum)
Been doing some work on my mums 1.9tdi octavia. 2003 155K If driven hard, after about a mile it goes into limp mode. Just done the VNT mr muscle clean. Run it with the code reader on, no fault codes. If you turn it off and re start it clears immediately and then flies. Another issue is from starting, if you rev it hard it then missfires, sounds like it's running on 3 cylinders. -
n/a - Importance and value of diagnosis and experience 19 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I await the bill with interest. Still, the boiler (14 years old) has been virtually rebuilt, so should run for years. And there is more heat in the radiators .... -
Corsa - Clutch/Gear Problem?? 20 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Checked the Haynes manual which talks about component problems, but surely if my clutch plates etc. were worn the fault would occur all the time, not just when the engine is up to running temperature? Someone at work suggested it might have an hydraulic clutch but the manual says nothing - although my car also has electronic PAS but the manual tells you nothing about that either. -
Honda CR-V - Disconnecting a faulty alternator 6 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Just disconnect the main post terminal, just disconnect the regulator connection, or disconnect both? I don't care about the old alternator, as it's dead anyway, but I need the car to run and don't want to flatten the battery if it's shorting. -
daf leyland 45 - my Daf leyland 45 won't star s reg 1998 3 May 2014 (Forum)
i have a daf leyland 45 and it wont start as of recent. it has been parked up since september 2013 with the occassional start now and then to keep engine running. its a cummins turbo engine. batteries went flat and i put them on charge and easily started it and let engine run for a while . batteries went again as they were old. discovered that one of the terminals was broken and rusty old which inturn damaged terminals of the recharged battery, so bought another battery but seems did not have much power. brought batteries with power and there was some kind of spark when i connectd battiries but i had replaced damaged positive terminal. i discovered batteries had charged but there was an irritating buzzing as a result but leyland would not start. power is there but wont kick at all. anyone with an idea as to what might be the problem. thanks in advance. -
Astra 2.2 Sri - 2001 - Won't Start 22 Nov 2013 (Forum)
It had been running good for its age since then. Until last month I did a couple of 150 mile round trips over three days and the car started playing up again as if the EGR was chocked so I thought it was the EGR. -
Toyota Carina E 1.8GS Petrol 1997 Manual - Intermittent Misfire 14 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Hi all, My previously 100% reliable car has developed a misfire. It is very intermittent, ie one minute the car's running as sweet as a nut, then it misfires for anything from 5 secs to 20 secs, then it runs fine again. It doesn't seem to happen when the engine is cold, only when it's thoroughly warm. It has just had new plugs and HT leads but this hasn't made any difference. -
Volvo S40 (2004 - ) - 06 2.0D Starting problem 16 Jul 2013 (Forum)
The rain and cold weather don't seem to help but there were also problems in the summer. Once started it always runs very well. -
Fiat Panda 1.2 56 plate - Cold starting..... 16 Apr 2013 (Forum)
Having real problems starting on cold days. Usual scenario is.... engine fires and runs for a few seconds then cuts out. Second attempt is the same except frequently the temp gauge will go to HOT then back to COLD within the space of another few seconds, Also the digital clock re-sets itself to 00.00 and flashes. -
