Volkswagen Golf II (1983 - 1992) - Water and oil mix despite new HG. 27 Aug 2007 (Forum)
hello there, having trouble again, I've owned my car for a year now but for the last six months she's been nothing but trouble!!, anyway, the problem is the oil and the coolant keeps mixing, I've bought three head gaskets now but every time i put the oil in and the coolant leave it over night oil keeps appearing at the bottom left corner, I've done everything else by the book, no-one that's had a look can tell me what's going on, I've taken the head off again, the coolant holes are all coolant but i cant figure out how the oil goes down to the sump, from what I've gathered all the holes on the cylinder block are full of coolant, and the holes on the cylinder head from the valves go into holes into the cylinder block, which is connected to some coolant holes. can anyone help??? -
Megane coolant loss 11 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Checked the coolant level again, and it had dropped right down. So it seems to be loosing coolant, but there are no obvious leaks, no dripping or crystal formations anywhere. I'm hoping this isn't the head gasket on the way out! -
Rover 25 - recommend good water coolant / loss sealer 9 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Any one recommend a good water sealer as having to top up engine coolant every two weeks and not doing more than 250 miles in total during that time. Not wanting to use any water sealent / stop leak that can cause further problems and cause unnecessary water blockages. -
Coolant (the costly manufacturer produced stuff) 20 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Mrs RickyBoy's newish Fiesta needs its coolant topping-up. We have at least half-a-litre of Renault's own-brand leftover from her last Clio which was bought in the past 12-months. Is there any danger in pouring Renault pre-mixed stuff into a Ford or should one really stick to the respective manufacturer recommended liquids? -

Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 98 1.6 coolant hoses 7 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I am still on the original set of coolant hoses & although they appear to be in good condition I think it is about time they were changed. As some of them are in an awkward possition for access I would like a few tips on the easiest way to go about it. -
Honda - Deauville motorbike. 03 - Brown dirty coolant 19 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have a deauville motorcycle 650cc. When I changed the coolant it came out as dirty: it was brown in colour. Is this something to worry about or not? It has covered 24000 miles, and it is an ex transport police bike. I am not too sure about its history as it came with no service history. -
Merc coolant change 28 May 2005 (Forum)
I've been told by my local MB dealer that as my Merc CDI has a chassis no. starting with WDC something... that it doesn't need a coolant change for 15yrs!! They also say there is no need to change the fuel filter for 5yrs. Is this correct or are they just saying this as it would mean one of the fitters would need to get on the floor to reach the drain plug and possibly get oil on his overalls!! -
Thermostat: regulator or on/off valve? 2 Jan 2003 (Forum)
My 96 Polo 1.6 petrol has started running cool as indicated by the gauge and a noticeable reduction of heater temperature. I suspect the coolant thermostat but have never had a definitive answer to the question "what regulates coolant temperature?". If the thermostat is acting purely as a coolant on/off valve for cold startup then surely another element must be providing regulation at normal running temperature? -
2009 Peugeot 207 petrol - Coolant temperature problem 25 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I turned on the blowers to max and hottest and it was quite hot. I mean, I closed the air outlet with my hand and I could resist only 5 seconds. The coolant level is OK. What would be the issue here? How can I possibly verify if the coolant temperature is actually correct? -
02 Fiesta (1.3l Duratec) - Crack in coolant tank / slight steam from radiator 28 Jul 2012 (Forum)
After popping the bonnet up I could see a little steam coming out. Upon further inspection I could see a rough bulge on the side of the coolant tank, and then when I peered at the back of the tank I could see a very slight crack where the coolant was coming out (all be it very very slowly). Is it a straightforward case of getting a new coolant tank or is the fact that there was a small amount of steam coming from the radiator be a worry also ? -
Volvo 440 1.6iLe (petrol) - What kind of AntiFreeze to use on old Volvo 440? 21 Aug 2011 (Forum)
The OAT antifreeze lasts for much longer and is a better bet from a reduced maintenance perspective. My question is would it be OK to use the newer coolant in an older car? I would obviously thoroughly flush out the old coolant and gunge using a hose. Are there any risks in using the OAT coolant with this older engine which has a cast iron block and alloy cylinder head? -
Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.6 loss of coolant 23 Aug 2008 (Forum)
My 1996 rover 216sli auto has been very good although only doing very low mileage, still only done 41K. Has been seeping coolant from the water pump, so requested garage to change pump, they stated that although the bearing was ok coolant had been seeping from the pump seal. New pump and cam belt fitted, drove home a distance of 5 miles all ok checked some 2 hours after and a large puddle of coolant was under the engine, this time instead of coming from the cam belt end it appears to be coming from under the thermostat housing? -
1994 1.4 Golf Coolant Issues 28 Oct 2005 (Forum)
What do I do? I need to get more coolant in but I can't. How do I know the thermostat is definately working? Any advice much appreciated/ Jimothy -
Coolant loss, any idea's? 23 Apr 2002 (Forum)
The problem has become worse, to such an extent I?m loosing 1 litre of coolant every 30 odd miles, and I?ve stopped running the car. The coolant seems to be coming out of the expansion tank vent, and pooling on the engine protector cover. I guess this is happening because the system is being pressurised by a leak somewhere. -
Chevrolet Matiz 1.0 SE Plus - Foam in coolant expansion tank, but no white smoke 7 Jul 2024 (Forum)
I've just bought a 2009 995cc Matiz. Driving home the coolant light came on. I topped up the coolant (it was low) and ran the engine for a few minutes with the cap off and foam appeared in the expansion tank. The expansion tank or foam doesn't look oily and I checked the oil cap and dipstick before buying and saw no mayonnaise. -
Toyota Camry - Would you change coolant hoses 2 Feb 2020 (Forum)
I am nervous that one might burst and overheat the engine. I think that's about the only thing that could kill it. Coolant is clean and pink. -
Ford Fiesta 1.4 2008 - Coolant leak Mk6 (late 08) Fiesta 20 Nov 2018 (Forum)
Evening all, hopefully someone on here will have had this problem, there's a very slight coolant leak on my 08 Fiesta, not losing that much but it is noticeable on a weekly check, dropping by about 10mm or so from the Max line. This did happen a little while ago and it was leaking by the thermostat which was fixed, had a look under the car and noticed some where the leaking coolant was settling, along the bottom of the cover for the cam belt. -
Ford Ka - Performance/economy and coolant level. 15 Feb 2017 (Forum)
For years my son has claimed the performance and fuel economy of his 05 Ka significantly worsens when the level in the coolant reservoir drops below the minimum (even though it's not empty). Although not pretending to be smart enough to understand this, I can't see any reason why this should be... yes, I can see how performance and fuel economy can vary for a variety of reasons (including faulty sensors/electronics), but not related to the level in the coolant reservoir.
