  I notice when starting the engine recently that you can hear the starter motro run on a bit after the engine has fired. Is there an easy fix for this?

  I have bought in the past on Honest Johns recommendation a Nissan Cherry, (£400 6 years)and a VW Golf (£900 7 years). The Golf was running OK but It has been hit from behind. Now I need a replacement hatchback up to 1.6Ltr £1000 maximum.

  Will all of the following tyre sizes have the same diameter and hence running circumference :- 205/16/55 235/45/17 235/40/18 All of these tyre sizes are used on my model of car and I was wondiring what the effect was on speedo/mileometer readings.

  2ltr auto 16v, idles too fast above about 10mph so it runs on. I assume it's the speed detector but I can't even find it. Any ideas, and is there a quick/cheap fix? Thanks in advance.

  If you were to buy a diesel car with a budget of £2500 to £3000 which one would you pick from these 3 and why? Mazda 626, VW Bora and Seat Toledo. Reliability and running costs are the most important factors. Looks and badge don't matter at all. Thanks!

  I haven't seen it, but have been offered a "Honda Accord Estate 1995 2.2 auto, leather , air con". Short MOT. Any ideas whether it's petrol, diesel, juicy, expensive to run, desirable or a lemon? I'm on me uppers! Any advice gratefully received!

  There must be something wrong with my Legacy Spec B. I've just returned from a 150 mile run and it returned 31mpg. That's the first time I've seen a number starting with a '3'. Perhaps I'm getting old or it could have been the heavy traffic ;-)

  Went to buy a 03/03 Zafira 2.2 Elegance but both off-side wheel arches had paint runs in the little space by the plastic wheel arch. Was this a bad day at the Vauxhall paint shop or something more serious? Car's done 36000 and has a clean HPI check!

  hi, if you were to put a socket on the crankshaft puley bolt and quickly spin the engine over for a couple of seconds with king lead off to loosen the bolt, could you do any damage to the engine? this is on an engine where the cambelt runs on a seperate sprocket not the crankshaft pulley chris

  As the weather is getting hotter, the gauge is going past the middle part, but not overheating. Does anyone know if this is ok. Is this part of hornet type engines that run with high temperature, or should it be inspected. Thanks for your thoughts. Greg

  What kind of cars could I get from an auction for £7k, typically? I'd be looking for one with as long a warranty period as poss. (2 years?) and is cheap to run. Preferably I'd want something not much smaller than my Focus or less fun. Is this possible, realistically?

  This has a very small tank (under one gallon) and no reserve,I intend to carry a sealed 500ml plastic container of petrol whch will give me 8 to 10 miles should I run out.My question is will the petrol go stale in a brimful, ie no air space container?. ndbw
