Honda Accord 30 Jul 2002 (Forum)
I have had a look at it and it seems fine but I was wondering if any of you knew of its weaknesses? It is a automatic with an overdrive mode, a city mode and a normal mode. Not sure what size engine it is but it's in so much better nick that a similar age car in the UK would have. It has no surface rust beneath its original lime green paintwork (urgh) and there is no evidence of any major prangs. -
Which Compact Family Estate? 23 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Hi All, Apologies in advance for the long post. I am looking for a suggestion from the group members. I am searching for an automatic compact family estate car with a petrol engine. I don't want to go for a loan, so my Max budget is 12k. MPG matters, but I am not looking for a very fuel-efficient vehicle. I only drive in the city on weekdays, and a single trip is probably not more than 3 to 6 miles. -
Mercedes-Benz SportCoupé Kompressor - Too Shiny For Me 19 Apr 2017 (Forum)
I was thinking maybe shocks and/or suspension bushings, but it seemed OK from a bounce test, for the very little that's worth. I don't like driving other peoples shiny cars, and once they'd seen me do it (havn't driven an automatic for a long time and tended to confuse the brakes with the non-existent clutch pedal. The brakes are VERY good.) they didn't either, so there was no high-speed freeway demonstration of the problem. -
Big Brother Speed Limiters 10 Apr 2003 (Forum)
in the boot that will stop drivers speeding? by Ray Massey, Transport Editor Cars are to be fitted with electronic devices that will automatically keep drivers within the speed limit in trial costing £2 million. If successful, manufacturers could be ordered to fit the ?black box? limiters costing between £100 and £200 to all new cars within a decade. -
Peugeot Bipper Tepee 1.4 HDI SA 2010 - Peugeot Bipper Tepee transmission fault 28 May 2025 (Forum)
I pulled over and then gently revved the car to try to pull away but the car jumped and stopped (as if the car had stalled in gear), I tried a few times but the same thing kept happening so I switched the engine off, waiting for a few seconds and then switched it back on again and pulled away with no problem in both automatic and semi-auto. This issue happened a few times and always when I was about to stop in gear (either mode) so to overcome this I cruised in neutral when I came to a junction, stopped and put it into gear and drove off with no issues and it only seemed to happen after the car had warmed up after a good drive out. -
2006 Peugeot 307 SW 2.0 HDI 136 RHR 6 speed box - Clutch pedal springy at bottom of travel 19 Apr 2025 (Forum)
I replaced the clutch and flywheel (LUK same as original) in 2019 at 138k, the new one has only done 23K, it seems to me that the clutch cover is not fully disengaging so probably the cover is faulty (maybe the automatic adjuster mechanism this seems to be an extra complication that isn't really needed). Has anyone come across this before? I wonder what stops the pedal at the bottom of it's travel, is it just it reaches the bottom of the master cylinder or is there a stop in the pedal box? -
Nissan Qashqai - Low miles (little service history) Vs Higher (fsh) 16 May 2024 (Forum)
All seem to look in reasonable nick from photos. (Not been to see them yet; there at various Car Stores around the UK.) All automatic transmission, petrol-engines... Cheers! -
Fun 2 Seater Sports Car between 6k and 10k 6 May 2024 (Forum)
It was the most unreliable car I have ever owned but I loved it in equal measure. I loved just going out for a drive. I don't do this in the MX5! Automatic Petrol as yearly mileage is about 5K. I would prefer a Coupe but happy to go for a Convertible. I find the MX5 steering a tad light. I just preferred how the Smart Roadster drove. -
Toyota Yaris - Should I buy a Toyota Yaris hybrid (2020-present)? 6 Apr 2024 (Forum)
The yaris ticks all the boxes except the battery issue. I live in a remote area where public transport is lacking. I am looking for automatic and open to other car suggestions if Yaris isn’t the best choice for me -
Using km/h speedo in UK 1 Oct 2023 (Forum)
It is possible to drive on motorways at 120 km/h (or 125 if you stretch it) without having to fear of getting ticket. Keeping track of posted speed limits is not an issue. The car automatically converts it. So if I am on 40 MPH road, the car displays 64 on dashboard. Also, mental calculations are not difficult - 20 MPH is 30 km/h, 30 is 50, 40 is 65, 50 is 80, 60 is 100, 70 is 110. NSL on single carriageway is 100 km/h - an easy to remember number. -
Family car with adaptive cruise & steering assist 15 Nov 2022 (Forum)
It doesn't need to be luxurious - in fact I'd strongly prefer not to have a "luxury" brand name on it - but there needs to be enough space for my children as they become >6ft teenagers, and for our suitcases when we go on holiday. The Hyundai Kona, for example, is not quite big enough. Must have an automatic gearbox, adaptive cruise and steering assist. To clarify (as there seems to be a lot of confusing terminology in use) this means that it must steer itself down the centre of the lane markings. -
Nissan Navara - Runaway Truck 27 Oct 2022 (Forum)
The neighbour came over, quite mortified and apologetic. The truck was a courtesy vehicle while his was in for a service. He normally drives an automatic Navara and this one was manual. He admitted that he had probably not set the handbrake as he was used to just leaving his car in park and getting out. They readily agreed to get the wall repaired and we cleared up the mess. -
Vauxhall Corsa - Advice on car bought 2 weeks ago please 13 Mar 2021 (Forum)
I bought a second hand car from a dealer 2 weeks ago and something doesn't seem right with it. I am only allowed to drive automatics and this is a corsa D breeze 2008. Easytronic so semi auto very similar to my last car. When I am driving it, the revvs in between gear changes are high and it's as though there is a delay in it finding the gear but then once it changes it's ok. -
Kia Sportage - Kia Sportage vs Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross 29 Oct 2020 (Forum)
My last car was a Honda CRV, which I sold when I moved country. I need a new one car and want an suv automatic. I considered the Honda CRV here too, but it seems you can get more for your money elsewhere. I ruled out a couple I didn't like because of the shape of the bonnet (I felt it was obstructing my view), not enough legroom in the back, not a big enough boot, etc. -
Changing the clocks 28 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Logic says that there must be an 8% reduction in Spring when the clocks go forward, but I have never heard them say so (I wonder why?). Computers, modern central heating timers, radio controlled clocks and watches adjust automatically, so it is a simpler change now than in 1971. Claiming it would ease communication with Europe is hardly valid, I have worked for two companies with headquarters in the USA and dealt on a daily basis with European companies, we had no problems communication across the time zones. -
Looking for a new Compact SUV 4 Oct 2020 (Forum)
I want a subcompact/compact SUV for the bigger boot and higher driving position Must have a Automatic Transmission or Hybrid. NO MANUAL GEARBOX or ELECTRIC. I dislike the former for city driving and not equipped for the later. Will be slightly used/like new. Not looking for new. Want to spend about 20,000 EUROS MAX. -
Seat adjustment. So little choice. 6 Aug 2020 (Forum)
SWMBO being 5'3" and me at 6'2" meant a real problem if she left the seat in her position after using my car. However when opened with my master key the seat and mirrors automatically returned to my settings. Absolutely priceless. This came as standard on my Superb Elegance. However this cannot be specified without buying a whole package of leather/heated seats and other gizmos, some not required. -
Toyota Prius - Real MPG 26 Feb 2020 (Forum)
While I am sure there are plenty of diesels that could do long quick trips at simular economy but I doubt they are Automatics and a relaxing to drive. -
Chevrolet Cruze and Fiat 500l - Auto under £6000 with decent boot 22 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Hi wondering if anyone has any suggestions for my budget of £4000-6000 for an automatic with boot that's in the 350 litre plus range. I have a few other requirements/requests but I'm fairly flexible. I have two toddlers so a boot that can accommodate a double buggy is needed. I currently drive an old diesel Zafira and it's just unnecessary now they're older and I am only doing about 7000 miles a year/short journeys, plus it's a fairly high tax rate. -
Honda Civic 1.8 - insurance LV renewal - European cover included now 16 Oct 2018 (Forum)
My cover includes a fair number of extras (protected NCD, legal cover, enhanced personal accident cover). It now automatically includes 180 day comprehensive European cover. I probably don't need this so I ran comparisons without it. A Comparison site and Direct Line could get me down to about £190 for a similar package.
