  • Porsche 997 Sells on eBay for £63,700 26 Aug 2005 (News)
Forgetting the reliability aspects of buying an old TVR, £2,000 for a red 280i Series 1 Fixed Head Coupe, chassis number 10, with 83,000 miles and lots of history could certainly be a hoot. 160bhp may not sound like much from a 2.8 litre Ford engine nowadays but I am sure it makes driving the TVR a memorable occasion. That £2,000 could also have bought another drop-top. This time a slightly modified 1992K VW Golf 1.8 GTi Sportline convertible with 60,000 miles and 11m ticket passed through.

Today’s Car Auction Bidding Calmer After First Week Buying Frenzy 15 Jan 2014 (News)
Variety is now feeding in, with newcomer cars such as Hyundais, KIAs and Nissan Qashqais that started to sell in big numbers three years ago coming through in greater numbers and holding onto their values. Most obviously behind book was a Volvo V60 1.6 DrivE R Design, sold for just £13,700. The bargains were in the part-exchanges. For example, an 07 Ford KA Studio for just £1,075. On the other hand, £4,900 for a 53k mile 3 year old Fiesta 1.2 82PS Edge is bang on book, but it’s what you’d have paid last year for a 2 year old.

  • 2023 Ferrari Purosangue SUV: Prices, specs and release date 18 Mar 2024 (News)
The Ferrari Purosangue will accelerate from 0-62mph in 3.3 seconds, remarkable for such a large SUV, aided by four-wheel drive and an ultra-direct eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. And because V12 engines like to rev and rev – particularly ones unencumbered by turbochargers – Ferrari project leader Gianmara Fulgenzi describes the acceleration as “never-ending”.
  • Unrestored, low-mileage Ferrari ‘Dino’ heads to auction 12 Sep 2019 (News)
Garaged alongside various significant motorcars, including one of the four alloy-bodied, right-hand drive Ferrari 250 GT SWB made (Chassis 3067GT), the Dino earned a special place in their affections and has outlasted all its other stablemates. Entrusted to Graypaul Nottingham on 24 September, 2018, for a thorough service, Chassis 07420 also had its fuel system flushed, brake system fettled and cylinder head gaskets replaced (the latter an engine out job).
  • Classic road tax explained: Tax bands, 40 year exemption, SORN rules 9 Aug 2017 (News)
.  You can find out more about the cost of VED for any vehicle via this link: https://www.gov.uk/calculate-vehicle-tax-rates Buying or selling your car Car tax is no longer transferrable when you buy or sell a vehicle. You can do this by phone or online at the place of purchase; it’s a simple process, assuming that the V5C – or V5C/2 New Keeper section – is with the car.

  • Goodwood Festival of Speed: Renault's classics in action 6 Jul 2013 (News)
The Renault Five Maxi Turbo scored its maiden win on the 1981 Monte Carlo rally, and remained a potent force until the all-wheel drive Group B cars arrived. The Maxi Turbo’s extraordinary proportions, and power, can be seen in action over the Festival weekend. 1978 Renault RS01 Formula 1 car ‘Yellow Teapot’ doesn’t sound a very promising name for a Formula 1 car, this unflattering nickname earned during its debut at the 1977 British Grand Prix where it suffered the first of many steamy retirements amid jokes from the opposition.
  • Local Business Backed Racing at Castle Combe This Weekend 10 Jun 2013 (News)
All the cars are derivations of 'road-going' Sevens and some are driven on the public roads. Very few changes from the standard specification are allowed, placing the emphasis firmly on driving ability rather than car development and set-up. A unique 45 minute 'handicap' race backed by Honda, in memory of the late Dave Allan, the manufacturer's former test driver from Swindon, will see a diverse range of saloon and sports cars taking part.
  • New Car Show Rescues and Restores Crumbling Classics 30 Jan 2013 (News)
A hit-and-run incident 32 years ago led Morgan to gradually lose the use of his legs. No longer able to drive his beloved Stag it spent the last 18 years in his garage gradually being swallowed under a mountain of junk whilst he sank into the doldrums. Having spirited the Triumph away the boys switch out the transmission and install some customized pedals so the ex-serviceman can enjoy his much loved motor once again.
  • Historics Official Results from 24th November Sale 28 Nov 2012 (News)
Jaguar was well represented as always, with a 1952 XK120 Roadster finished to Fast Road Specification selling for £60,000, while a 1958 XK150 fixedhead coupé was snapped up by the same buyer for £44,800. Despite the wet weather, soft-tops still struck accord with buyers, and a rare righthand drive 1960 Mercedes-Benz 190SL found a new owner for £54,336, while a 1969 280SL Roadster by the same manufacturer fetched £38,640.  Topless British beauties included a resplendent red 1974 Jensen Interceptor that reached £33,600 and 1959 Austin Healey 3000 BT7 Mk.I which fittingly found a final price of £40,752.
  • BCA Warns Against Pimping Your Ride 30 May 2012 (News)
Body skirts, spoilers, wheel arches etc If professionally done and well maintained, this might attract certain buyers, but generally these additions are more likely to devalue the car, because they scream ‘boy racer’. Adding wide arches and fat tyres is a double whammy, because few motorists want to drive something that looks like a stock car and the specialist tyres are relatively much more expensive to replace. Could add around £250 or lose as much as £500 Lowered Suspension Kits/Body Lighting/Under lighting The prevalence of speed humps around Britain’s roads mean used car buyers generally do not see the benefit in lowering a car’s suspension.

When Hall's car is perfect he may just have the edge, but has to temper this against Norton's ability to drive flat out, with no regard to points, given his late arrival to the contest this year. With two rounds to go, Saltford's Steven Jensen needs to regain the form which saw him take double victories earlier this year.
