  • VW T4 - VagCom 22 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I can buy a VagCom lead and software disc off eBay for less than a tenner. Do these items allow you to change and save the idling/fuelling values or is it read only?
  • Rusty bolts 20 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I have recently found an excellent solution for rusted on bolts , ie exhaust and suspension, it is coca cola. It works far better than the so called market leading deceasers. Anyone agree? comments?
  • FIAT Panda (2003 - ) - Cabin filters 16 Feb 2008 (Forum)
A straightforward question about car cabin filters in general. Are they usually up or down stream of the aircon evaporator and does their permanent removal lead to clogging of the evaporator matrix?
  • VW Caravelle - Battery 17 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Reset a few times but seems like battery was not taking charge. no load reading was still 0V. Got a donor car and connected jump leads. with both cars off, the jump leads were getting hot, so removed after approx. 20 seconds. Measured no load voltage again, still 0V. donor car engine not running and ignition off. Tried battery charger again, same result.
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 00 1.8 Multiple coil pack failure: why? 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
It went quiet for a bit, I checked that the leads and plugs were all secure. But now it's back with a vengeance and I fear a meetup with the man from the AA before I get the problem sorted this week. So what I need to know is a) if there is likely to be an underlying cause for the failures?
  • Sierra - What no spark? 26 Oct 2001 (Forum)
Fuel is getting to the carb (pumping ok - pipe removed to confirm) and new/fresh petrol has been put in. No spark when plug is removed and engine turned over. Likewise no spark when HT lead is held (with protection!!) slightly away from coil. Can lead from distributor end be grounded to check for spark or not? So, changed coil - no go. Changed ignition module - no go. Although friendly car parts shop allowed each to be returned and both were tried individually.

  • Fuels 23 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Are the new range of Ultimate and Optimax unleaded fuels safe to use on ALL vehicles (obviously apart from those that require diesel or leaded!)? If so, do they deliver the additional efficiency and performance that they promise and are they worth the extra pennies on the litre?
  • Fuel Worry # 2 20 Mar 2002 (Forum)
I was day-dreaming at the gas station today and the pump attendant filled me (or rather my truck) up with leaded instead of unleaded. Engine seems fine so far. Should I worry?
  • Chrysler Grand Voyager - Car Stereo Query 12 Sep 2012 (Forum)
    - as the stereo only has 2 output phono sockets do i go for a 2 channel amp, or as the adapter lead connecting to the speakers has 4 phono cables do i need a 4 channel amp (and split the 2 outputs from the stereo into 4 before connecting to the amp)? - is the output from the amp always speaker wire terminals as my adapter lead has 4 phono plugs, will I need to rig up some conversion from speaker wire to phono socket?
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0 Sludge in inlet manifold - diesel? 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Whilst driving at the weekend a slight wooshing noise whilst under boost indicated an air leak upstream of the turbo, I found a slight split in the "S" shaped rubber hose that leads from the intercooler to the EGR outlet tube that itself leads up to the inlet manifold. I fitted a new hose today, quite straightforward, and at the same time replaced the water/PAS pump aux belt while in that area of the engine.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 1.6 16v 2003 Dual fuel. Tyres best prices inc fit 7 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I don\'t desire to go down that path again! I took them off the car and replaced them with a leading brand within a few hundred miles. Yes, that bad. I was told low grip/squeal was because they had a low rubber but high nylon content - hence cheap!

  • Bump starting problem 3 Aug 2007 (Forum)
The only thing I didn't try was starting it and revving it, all this happened without touching the accelerator. I assume they got it going in the end, since someone else stopped and offered jump leads. I'd left my car blocking the exit ramp so had to go any fetch it.
  • CD Changers with FM Modulator 26 Aug 2004 (Forum)
I'm quite keen on keeping the standard fit radio / cassette, so I want to fit a CD changer which will plug into the aerial lead. Questions: 1) Has anyone had any experience of the Kenwood KDC-CMP59FM CD/MP3 changer & modulator? 2) Are there any units where the main unit can sit in the boot, and the modulator sits behind the radio - i.e., so I don't have to re-route the aerial lead to/from the boot?
  • Astra - slow cranking 28 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Whilst I know diesel engines sometimes take time to fire I never had this problem until approx 6 weeks ago. Until then the starter had turned quickly.Even with jump leads the starter seems quite sluggish. All this leads me to believe that the problem is with the starter but I would be grateful for any advice from you guys. Could there be another reason? Is there a way of testing the starter?
