  I have a Hyundai Getz which has developed the strangest fault. If the engine is started when completely cold, it starts and runs fine. Similarly, if started when completely warmed up, it starts and runs fine. The problem occurs when you try to restart the car when the engine has not fully warmed up. The symptoms of the fault are as follows: -very little power under load and stalls extremely easy -uneven running and generally sounding very rough / laboured when idling.

  So about a year later I replaced the thermostat again. Same thing - improved for a few months then gradually running cold again. I am currently running with 2 modified carpet tiles blanking off most of the radiator, meaning it warms up in about 3-8 miles (instead of never) and then runs at about the right temperature mostly, but it does run hot enough for the fan to cut in regularly if I get stuck in traffic or when coming to lower speeds off the motorway.

    They said they did not think it made much difference, decided to test and it was no better, but took it for an “Italian tune” as she drive quite slowly, after about 50 miles at 70/80 I came back and its running even worse at low revs not even idling and cutting out all the time.    I changed the oil, & filter, plugs, air filter about 1500 miles ago and it was running fine.There is no warning light on the dash.

  I won't be trading the Boxster for a while, so this is more out of interest than intent, but having spent an afternoon looking at moters on the trader website I saw some tasty 15k-ish motors: * E39 M5 * E46 M3 * CLK 500 * Audi S4 Do these motors realistically cost more to run than a Boxster or is that naive? The Boxster isn't particularly cheap to run IMO. I'm not talking about insurance, fuel & tax, which will obviously be higher in these group 20 monsters, just servicing & maintenance & provisional budget for service parts etc.

  So says an article I found this morning on Yahoo News. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/cars-could-soon-run-on-thin-air-thanks-to-hydrogen-breakthrough-151322536.html  As my wife and I intend to keep our  petrol cars (2012 Kia Rio and 2013 Suzuki Alto) for at least another 8-10 years maybe we will give electric a miss and go the thin air route.
