He made us do it as a project. It's down to the Honda City and a Ford Lynx again like I got already (Mazda-based car I know it is but the Ford saleslady doesn't like to agree! She says it's got Ford on the engine which is true but she doesn't know I read HJ's reviews! Glad I do!) Lynx is a lot of car for the money.

Ditto the 95PS Fabia I tried recently while considering another supermini which is a car I quite like. You do really need the higher output model but I’ve yet to try one. I tried a Mazda 2 1.5 also another car I like but it is a bit flat. It won’t be replaced by a supermini or small hatch anyway so swmbo has for now decided but I’ll miss the diesel superminis and small hatches which will disappear into the mist without anyone preserving or caring a jot.

Must be practical enough and big enough boot to cope with weekend away for 5 Must have plenty of "get up and go", but be able to give us at least mid 30s MPG Must be suited to daily multiple short journeys, many less than 2 miles Must have a sense of style and quality especially interior with good smattering of tech (Mrs Gs view is that she is ... ahemm *ifty years old, and has worked hard all her life and now wants a bit of luxury.) Must be comfortably under 15ft long (rules out the likes of Mazda 6 and similar size hatches) An additional priority for me is refinement (road / tyres noise, and suspension set up).  If I can fauly the Grandis on anything (for its genre) it would be that, and something I'd like to improve on changing the car Due to driving pattern (less than 10K per year and lots of short journeys, many under 2 miles long) we have decided to stick to petrols.

Nissan 136hp: Turbo will likely fail Renault: EGR valve, potential to run on sump oil Mazda 2.0: Large potential to run on sump oil.  Likely DMF issues. Toyota 2.2: Large potential to blow head gasket Toyota 2.0: "Don't reckon on very high, trouble-free mileages for these engines" Honda 2.2: Failed turbos, high oil consumption, poor economy, Teves ABS issue.
