Thanks to Aldi for waiving a parking charge issued to my wife for overstaying. 14 Oct 2010 (Ask HJ)
My wife is a fairly regular user of the Aldi store in Oswestry. She was aware of the perfectly reasonable 2-hour parking limit but unaware of the camera... -
Speedos of discontent 25 Apr 2009 (Ask HJ)
Why is it that the majority of vehicles display speed in analogue format, viewed down a dark tunnel between steering wheel hub and rim, requiring maximum... -
Omnibuslane edition 25 Apr 2009 (Ask HJ)
Regarding the recent e-mail about drivers not using bus lanes. I recently got done by a bus lane camera on a Sunday in South London. I had tried for about... -
The penalties of speedership 7 Mar 2009 (Ask HJ)
I think it was RA, and not CG, who "missed the point" recently. CG was valid in saying that he "concentrates more on speed cameras than what is around... -
Smartie pants 10 Jan 2009 (Ask HJ)
Like CW of Moseley, I am experiencing much below indicated fuel economy from my new model Smart ForTwo. Friends with original model Smarts certainly seem... -
A few days in China, cars, pollution, perspective 26 Mar 2008 (Forum)
In our 50`s classrooms a red world map.."the sun never sets on the British Empire"... Then to 2008, the camera zooms out... sitting on the back of an asian elephant (strolling through the tea garden) is certain well worn flea (with `UK`stamped on its er, back) has the above sound bites running through its head, while it tries to reduce its carbon footprint.... -
The Gatso king speaks 8 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Interview in todays paper with Richard Brunstrom, North Wales Police Chief and the leader in the rush to put a speed camera on every corner. Note the reference to "You buggers". Surely he is not suggesting that a driver doing 32 mph in a 30 is on a par with sexual deviants. Discuss. Rhyl Visitor February 6th 2002. -
New Suzuki Swift 27 Jun 2024 (Forum)
There are two trim levels, Motion and Ultra, with Motion supplying lots of standard equipment (including heated front seats, adaptive cruise control, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, rear parking camera). Ultra adds climate control (as opposed to manual A/C), electrically folding door mirrors and a heater vent for rear passenger, amongst other features. It’s a new engine, a 1.2 three pot with mild hybrid and a five speed manual (CVT is available as an option, as is AWD). 82PS doesn’t sound overly impressive, but it seems a torquey little thing and will keep up with traffic. -
Company pool car civil liberties? 24 Mar 2021 (Forum)
The company this week changed the vehicles tracker for a newer model which amongst other things includes a camera inside the car with a microphone recording the driver. The argument from the company is it lowers their insurance as it will identify if a driver is distracted or ‘acting illegally’ (that’s what it states in the employee email bulletin he showed me). -
Smart Motorways?!?! 25 Jun 2020 (Forum)
So much for the efficiency of our smart motorway network camera coverage and rapid response. Yesterday, Saturday, M6 south just below jct 13 4 lane running no warnings, car stopped presumably broken down on live left lane. Today, Sunday, M1 south around jct 29 4 lane running, no warnings, car stopped presumably broken down on live left lane. -

Toyota Yaris - Engine choices 13 Jun 2019 (Forum)
I see it ultimately a decision between using the 3k scrappage scheme and buying a new 1 litre entry level Yaris or buying a used 1.33l or 1.5l (the Icon model) which will give her the useful rear camera - she does not need bluetooth or nav or anything else to be honest. The number 1 priority for her is reliability- therefore, does anyone have any insight/view into which one of these engines is "best". -
None - Traffic Taliban 4 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Apart from that, there are plenty of practical objections: Do we want drivers looking at their speedos more than the road Are poice cameras accurate to 1 mph Your speedometer may say nearly 30 mph but you are only doing 25 mph leading to frustration with following drivers -
Volvo XC90 - They've got the wrong number plate 28 Apr 2016 (Forum)
They've attached an accident form the bus driver must have completed when he got back to base (not signed nor seen by me - though it had my correct name and address, but wrong number plate). They've also attached a picture from a CCTV camera, which doesn't show my number plate. I'm not a dishonest person, but this is so unreasonable it's laughable. They've quoted law that I have to legally tell them my number plate or its a criminal offence etc. -
Smart headlight 8 Jan 2016 (Forum)
I recently read an article in an old copy of the BBC Focus magazine about ‘Smart Headlights’. The article is about Ford’s Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System. It seems that the Ford Motor company are developing a front lighting system that will react to such things as animals on the road up to 120 meters ahead. -
New car for Mrs Happy Blue? 24 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I think I could also tempt her into another Captur, as our family seem to like the one I have. Any other suggestions? She wants automatic, SatNav and a reversing camera and style/image is important to her, so suggesting a Kia Venga will not go down well.......Is a Mini Countryman a sensible option? -
Peugeot 308 SW, ford focus - can't decide between 308sw and focus estate. 16 Oct 2015 (Forum)
for the same price, peugeot has bigger and better finished boot, much more toys (sat-nav, front sensors, rear camera, full LED, electric park brake, etc) and (on paper) punchier engine but ford has (in my opinion) better cockpit, little better front seats and maybe looks a bit better in front (Titanium grille). -
Another - Parking Charge Notice, G24 23 Jul 2015 (Forum)
A couple of points though, How can someone appeal when they receive the "notice" AFTER the appeals period. ( Iam lucky i had my receipts and wickes were helpful), but how many people keep receipts for minor items? Why do their cameras not show an entry, an exit and then 2 hours later another. There is nothing that says that you cannot re-visit the store. First bit to note. DO NOT PAY before contacting the retailer or the car park owners where the alleged offence has taken place. -
MINI Cooper S - 2014 Mini Cooper SD 17 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I'm just amazed I can't find any video reviews about it! I've told the missus when we collect it this week I'm going to get her to be my Camera Woman and film me reviewing it, I will be totally honest and due to the lack of SD related coverage I'm guessing I could potentially become famous from this video!! Any feedback and comments useful and related to the SD will be welcomed. -
Contravening a red traffic light 7 May 2014 (Forum)
I have received a notice of intended prosecution letter earlier saying that I have drove through the red light and have been captured by a camera . I honestly have no memory of this happened but the time and the date is correct that I remember I have drove through there since I was on the way to uni with my friends. Neither me nor my friends noticed about this incident.
