MPG at different speeds 9 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Does anyone know where I can find a graph (or figures) showing fuel economy at different speeds. I realise that it will vary for each vehicle but I wondered if there were some general principles that apply to all vehicles. For example, I read that one reason for not increasing the speed limit on motorways to 80 mph is that fuel economy is much worse at 80 than at 70 mph. -
Garage pump accuracy? 30 Mar 2004 (Forum)
That seems a big inaccuracy to me. Has anyone else ever tried checking the amount of fuel they have been dispensed? -
economical driving 31 Jul 2003 (Forum)
yesterday i took my astra 1.4 to manchester airport, I spent £6.50 on fuel,72p a litre and i covered 98 miles till the fuel warning light came on, on the motorway i was travelling an average 62 m.ph, i reckon for a petrol car with four adults my car gave about 45 mpg, question to you guys is it more economical to drive at a constant 60 than go flat out 80-90 mph, saving time, but would i still be driving economically at faster speed? -

Cavalier Mk3 SRi G plate Replaced the battery, and now the car will not run. It turns over ok, but seems not to fire?, replaced the air box, there is nice atomised fuel on all four cylinders excellent sparks. It usually started first time every time, replaced ECU and ignition relay, fuel pump working fine. Anyone have any ideas?, will not go on a bump start or whilst being towed either -

Peugeot 308 SW - multpile fault codes connected to fuel system 2 Feb 2019 (Forum)
The garage confirmed p0087 is low rail pressure and p0490 is the exhaust gas recirculation less than minimum. A bit of googling has revealed some of the others to me all of which seem to be to do with the fuel system. Kwik fit guessed it might me to do with the Peugeot fuel additive and advised me to find a dealer. So far the only garage I'e managed to get hold of wanted to charge £65 just to look and were dropping in lots of "could be several major and expensive problems" comments. -
Peugeot 406 HDI poor fuel economy 16 Mar 2017 (Forum)
My 1999 406 HDI 90 is suffering poor fuel economy. I am on 101,000 miles. When the car was new I remember getting 55mpg from a tank on occasions. For the last year I've been getting 45mpg combined. On my last few tanks of fuel I'm getting 39mpg and on this most recent tank I have got 37mpg. -
Mazda Mazda 6 (2002 - 2007) - 04 2.0 Smoke on start up 22 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Being reasonably familiar with diesel engines this is the sort of smoke you get when there is excess fuel at start up i.e. it is effectively unburnt fuel, and this would be consistent with its smell. The car always starts very quickly so it is not due to diesel building up due to long cranking before starting. -
Ford Focus 5Dr Hatchback 2.0 Ltr TDCI - Starting Problems 4 Aug 2015 (Forum)
and said they cannot find any faults and have said 'it is just one of those things' which will be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. The car has had a full service every 12 months/12.5k with fuel, oil, air filters changed each time even though the fuel and air filter does not need changing each time! Fuel treatment has also been added at each service. I hope someone can suggest a possible cause as I feel it will let me down at some point soon if this issue is not resolved. -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace 1.9 IDI - Rough Starting 2 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Trips to Liverpool and Leicester return normal fuel consumption and other performance. I f it had displayed the symptom spontaneously I’d have said glow plug(s) not right or, if not, air in fuel. -
VW Polo 1998 - Fuel Problem? Engine Problem? - Can you help? 12 Aug 2014 (Forum)
It had a full service 2 months ago and then went back to have a part replaced to try and fix the fuel pressure light coming on but it didn't work so the mechanic told me to just keep an eye on the engine heat and check oil levels often (which is fine by the way). I went to a different mechanic and he suggested an engine flush. -
Saab93, 1.9tid - Air in fuel line 7 Mar 2014 (Forum)
Anyway , I had it pumped out and filled with deisel but after a few weeks driving started to have problems with what sounds like air getting into fuel line. When I turn the ignition on the noise from the tank is spluttering and spitting what sounds like air. The car starts ok and off i go but only get a mile or so before she dies. Turn ignition off and on again and she will start again and off I go for a bit, then she will cut out again. -
Is there such a car? 12 Aug 2013 (Forum)
So far I can get most of the boxes ticked as long as I don't expect fast acceleration. So the three most importanti things are car cost, fuel cost, acceleration. Can anyone suggest something suitable please? I don't want a Focus purely because we have had 3 of them in the family already and each one has had poor fuel economy. -
First fill of biodiesel 28 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I do expect that when I change the oil and filter in roughly 1000 miles of driving, some, most or hopefully all of the sludge which has been building up on the bottom of the fuel tank will have been deposited on the old filter. I'm not really anticipating any other effects other than improved NVH and fuel economy, as well as a much more pleasant smell from the exhaust. I'll post here about any progress. -

Mondeo 1.8 SCi Fuel Consumption 20 Nov 2010 (Forum)
Outside work use is the usual visits here and there and so on but it is never used for short hops to shops. I don't thrash it so I am not wasting fuel there. Are my expectations too high?
