Best car for London 30 Jan 2017 (Forum)
The mini I drove was a manual so any experience with the auto would be appreciated - also I thought it a little noisy and hard but the salesman said if I didn't trace the 17 inch wheels on the test car it would be a lot different. -
Fiat Qubo or alternative - Fiat Qubo or...? 8 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Now the automatic gearbox has gone on the Mercedes and she's looking for a second car (having recalculated and found it would, after all, be useful). She wants something roomy (the A170 was almost big enough, the MINI too small; we need decent room without having to physically remove the rear seats), comfortable (the Merc was OK, the MINI... well, we're getting a bit old for that...), and 'fun' (hard to define, I know; I even had fun once driving a decidely dodgy Corsa). -
MINI Cooper S R53 (2002 - 2007) - '06 R56 Needs headgasket replacing. Will it be ok? 21 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Dear John Since purchasing my Mini Cooper S R56 I have had problems from the word go! It all started off with a horrible diesel like rattle at cold start up, the dealer replaced the cam tensioner under warrenty, this had no effect and the problem continued, however to replace this the high pressure cam driven fuel pump had to be removed/replaced, My second trip to the dealer was to have this replaced as it was leaking post cam tensioner replacement, at the same time I told the dealer the diesel rattle sound at cold start up was still there, BMW tech reps were called in, they said they had seen this on the early build R56 engines and to replace the engine. -
Mazda 3 mini road test 29 Jun 2006 (Forum)
However, there was something appealling about the car, and I would have one of they did a 2.0 auto with a full on spec which included leather, air, cruise, sat nav (in other words a mini luxury car, one size below the Lexus IS220), as it has the external design to justify that idea. -

MG MG TF (2002 - 2005) - Just bought one! 18 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I think a moment of madness has landed me with a new TF. We were wanting to load off the MINI and get something even less practical after the MINI causing a few problems it was time to go. Have to say was one of the best buying experiences Ive had, no pressure, sensible approach on price etc. -
What would you buy if...... 30 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I'd put on my shortlist: Toyota Yaris 1.3 like my daughter's - it goes like a bomb Skoda Fabia Combi 1.4 petrol or 1.9 diesel if I needed more room Honda Jazz but probably go for a VW Golf 1.4 TSi or 2.0 TDI 170. I'd look at a BMW 120d - not sure if I'd like it. Not a Mini, much as we love SWMBO's, as despite only being a Mini One, it uses more petrol than her previous 2-litre Honda Civic. Not a Prius unless I drove mainly in towns - a diesel makes more sense if you go out more. -
Aberrant hybrid styling 3 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Car models based on the floorpans of other car models are today slickly designed, looking and even feeling like completely different vehicles, but it was not always so. I am thinking in particular of two badge-engineered Mini variants, the Riley Elf and Wolseley Hornet. Actually said to be quite nice little cars, had 12-inch wheels I think rather than the Mini's 10-inch items, but the styling with sharp little snout and pert little boot always looked ridiculous to me although well executed. -
