Side lights AND head lights? 29 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Use less power - use less fuel Now that vehicle computers can spot a bulb failure and warn you, should cars etc. be rigged such that when the headlights are on the font side lights aka parking lights go off? The computer could put the relevant side light back on if a headlight bulb failed Situation will presumably change once new cars have to have daytime lights on them But a chance to save fuel has been / is being missed? -

Its between a Citroen Relay 2.0HDI or a Nissan Primastar 1.9TDI My basic question is what is the fuel consumption for a HDI vs TDI as in does the TDI burn more fuel than the HDI or the other way around. Sorry for the silly questions I just dont know and have been recommend to ask here. Thanks in advance, Tom -
Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 95 1.9 Testing stop solenoid on a TD 13 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I suspect that the replacement stop solenoid I recently fitted is faulty. The car has not started since it was fitted. No fuel reaches the injectors, and I know fuel is reaching the injector pump (Bosch). I have removed the solenoid, and gripped the body in the jaws of a connected -ve jump lead, and when applying +ve to the head there is no noise. -
Citroen Saxo (1997 - 2003) - 99 1.5d misfires when warm 26 May 2009 (Forum)
saxo 1.5d misfires/runs rough bluish smoke. It does run better the more it is reved. The only obvious signs are air bubbles in the fuel lines inlet and return. It seems worse the hotter it gets. misses now and again on idle. new fuel filter fitted, the old one had rust in it? wondering if the lift pump may be damaged? -

Hi, My Kangoo van has developed a strange fault where when I turn the key the low fuel light will illuminate and stay on and the speedo clock and mileage will be blank. Also the fuel gauge shows empty and the rev counter is also dead. If i disconnect the battery and reconnect it the fault goes away until the next day. -

Rover 800 (1986 - 1999) - 1996 2000ti petrol tank leak 23 Apr 2008 (Forum)
My Rover 820 Vitesse Sport has developed a leak in the fuel tank. I know this model has a high capacity fuel pump, but other than this does anyone else know if the petrol tanks on 800s are all the same (just different pumps - which I can swop over). Also, anyone know of a source of good 2nd hand tanks - new are obsolete at dealers. -

A technical question about vacuum 10 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I have a 4 cyl motorcycle, 4 carbs, each has a stub to connect to a vacuum balancer, three stubs are blanked off and one is connected to the fuel tap which is vacuum opperated. If the stubs were linked and in effect all were connected to the fuel tap would the vacuuum applied at the tap increase? I think not, the vacuum from all 4 carbs will be the same so will be absolute, rather like pressure and volume being independant. -

Terrano diesel lumpy tickover 21 Mar 2005 (Forum)
On a 1999 Terrano 2.7tdi automatic the tickover is erratic sometimes and at other times displays a "hysteresis" pattern (thrum thrum thrum like an old commercial diesel). however normal running is OK and fuel economy as normal. Car is regularly serviced so filters should not be clogged. Have tried Redex diesel in a tank of fuel without much success. Any ideas? Not too worried because I'm trading it in soon and the problem is probably not bad enough for dealer to notice. -
Driving VW Diesels Economically 11 Jun 2004 (Forum)
HJ advised an owner of a 130bhp VW Golf to keep the engine revs between 2 and 3000rpm to maximise the fuel economy. Admitedly this was for a six speed gearbox. I've tried this in my Passat 100bhp 5 speeder. I found myself driving generally two gears lower than normal. According to the computer the fuel economy was worse than usual.
