Ford Fiesta Mk 5 (2003 1388 cc LX (UK)) - Power Assisted Steering Fluid Dump 27 Jul 2022 (Forum)
Firstly, is this assumption correct or could it be something else? Secondly, have been adding Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF) and most recently additionally "Wynn" Stop & Prevent (WSP) Leaks Fluid to the Reservoir. Due to the time difference between the introduction of the Wynn Stop & Prevent Fluid (WSP) into the mix, and therefore the ATF been at the bottom of the system, will it possibly resolve itself - more optimistically- might it resolve itself ??? -
First Car help 16 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Hello I am hoping that somebody will be able to help me out as I don’t know anything about cars and don’t want to make a mistake when buying my first car. My budget is £4000 and needs to be an automatic and in insurance group 10 or below. I did narrow my options down to a Honda jazz 1.4 cvt or Nissan Micra 1.2/1.4 I have found examples of both with only 30000. Does any body have experience of driving these cars and if so which would they reccomend or is there any other cars that anybody would reccomend I don’t really want anything above a 1.4 as the insurance estimates for both jazz and micra are £2000. -
What car to buy my mum? 15 Jan 2018 (Forum)
Ideally it would be economical to run, to fix and to tax. She does a fair amount of motorway driving as well as around town. It has to be an automatic, and I’m slightly nervous about her having anything more punchy than a 1.4l engine. She’s not as confident behind the wheel as she used to be. I don’t know much about cars and was hoping someone could give me some good advice on what to go for? -
Next car debate 1 Dec 2017 (Forum)
I'm looking to spend upto £20K on my next set of wheels. I'm looking for: Reliability, Comfort, Effortless drivability, Diesel or Petrol Hybrid, Automatic, Economical However, I'm gonna be working in North Yorkshire (quite a lot of country lanes) so was also contemplating 4x4. Well after watching various Youtube vids. Audi's Quattro seems far superior to any other 4x4. -
ANPR use extended and used as evidenece of offenc 13 Mar 2017 (Forum)
The Road Traffic Offenders (Additional Offences) Order 2017 Coming into force 5th April 2017 This Order amends section 20 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988 which allows records from prescribed devices, such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition cameras, to be used as evidence in proceedings for certain offences. This Order adds two offences to the list of offences to which section 20 applies— (a) driving on the hard shoulder of a motorway contrary to regulation 9 of the Motorways Traffic (England and Wales) Regulations 1982 (S.I. 1982/1163) which is an offence under section17(4) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 (c.27); and (b) failing to comply with an indication given by a light signal not to enter, or proceed in, a traffic lane which is an offence under section 36(1) of the Road Traffic Act 1988 (c.52). -
Vauxhall Omega - Accelerator return spring. 29 Sep 2016 (Forum)
The hand control rods are fitted to the brake and accelerator pedals close to the pivot points. Just like any other automatic the car creeps when the brakes are off. The hand control to accelerate is pulled upwards allthough the conecting rod to pedal actualy presses down on the pedal arm but I find the action very stiff and the car jumps forward instead of picking up speed smoothly. -
AEB braking systems 8 Aug 2016 (Forum)
I have read elsewhere that some of these Automatic/Autonomous Emergency Braking systems on lorries have applied full emergency braking when triggered falsely by road signs/fence posts on bends and other conditions. Some systems are evidently supposed to flash a warning to the driver and only apply brakes if he doesn't react by a dab on the brakes but don't always. -
Mercedes Benz S320 auto, year 2000 - Burning oil and smoking heavily, looses power 24 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Hi, I have a mercedes s320, automatic, year 2000 with 110500 miles on the clock. It is a great car but recently failed on me. It looses power under high eceleration (ie, going up hills) It smokes heavily and is burning oil at a high rate. -
Any thoughts about the BMW 2.0i engine? 16 Dec 2015 (Forum)
The dealers seem far keener to sell diesels, but after five noisy diesel cars in a row I love my current petrol Octavia vRS, and I really don't want another diesel. The signs were very good in the automatic 220i I tried: the transmission didn't seem to sap the performance, and the strong torque that is such a feature of the Octavia seemed to be there too, although a 225i might be even better. And it was beautifully quiet and refined. -
Car suggestions 10 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Although not the best to look at and apart from being the victim of someone keying the car, it has been really reliable and pass mots no problem. and revelative cheap on petrol. Now I want to get a larger car with 5 doors and manual not automatic currently do approx 350 miles a week but that may increase soon as a job im a training for will involve visiting clients houses. so economical on petrol I have about £2000 maybe a little more although car insurance is still pricey at £650 a year. -
2007 Ford Focus TDCi - Electric Windows Auto Up 27 Nov 2014 (Forum)
The switch is two steps down, two steps up, so a slight push (one click) allows me to manually operate them, while a full push (two clicks) makes them go down all the way on their own, the same for up (1 click = up manually, two click = up automatically all the way). Since the battery was changed, the windows don't go up on their own anymore, only one-click works. is this a simple fix, i.e. do I need a new relay/fuse/solenoid, or is this deeper seated? -
Vauxhall New Meriva - Meriva Electric parking brake & hill starts 22 May 2014 (Forum)
We've followed the instructions in the manual for just driving off and letting it release the brake automatically, which is fine on flat surfaces and slight inclines, but we live in area surrounded by steep hills. All our attempts result in us rolling back. The only way it has worked in the end is by pulling up the switch to keep the brake switched on until the accelerator and clutch are balanced enough & the car starts to pull forward. -

Ford Focus Saloon - Ford Focus Starting Problems 1.6 Petrol Auto. 9 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Hi. We've got a 2003 Ford Focus 1.6 Saloon automatic and for about a year we've been having intermittent (sporadic) starting problems where if you turn the key, all the dashboard lights come on like normal, and then nothing, just a click. We had the starter motor replaced about 10 days ago and it seemed to go away for about a week, but now the problem has returned. -
Medium size used car - Recommendations? 17 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I'm looking to get a used medium sized car (astra/focus size) which is an automatic (or semi auto) and has 5 doors. It should also do more than 41 mpg which is what our current 15 year old toyota does (quoted). In terms of budget, it's up to £7k but could be extended to £8k for something really economical and/or low tax. -

BMW 3 series vs 5 series running costs 2006 -2008 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
My budget is about 9 grand, looking on autotrader it looks like I can get a 3 series with 50k or below miles or if I want a 2008 5 series it would have to be 100k miles which is probably a lot, I want a automatic this time and am a bit worried the transmission will pack up if I get a high miler... Advice would be much appreciated as at the moment i'm very confused! :) -
Toyota Previa - black transmission fluid 27 Feb 2013 (Forum)
My automatic transmission needs a complete reconditioning. The gear box was dismantled at a specialist transmission place and they reported that the fluid was black, burnt, smelly & low. A full exam showed the direct clutch had failed due to loss of hydraulic pressue through the direct clutch teflon sealing rings. -

Chrysler Grand Voyager - car cuts out for no reason whilst driving 24 Oct 2011 (Forum)
hello everyone, i have a 1997 chrysler grand voyager 3.3le automatic. for the last couple of months had a problem with the car cutting out whilst driving, i can cost her in nuetral and turn the ignition off, and then use the key fob to de-activate the alarm and then start her again, this some times takes several attempts and can be dangerous, aspecialy if on motorway. the car starts when you first get in with no problem what so ever.
