  • Lexus GS300 - drinking too much fuel 21 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Platinum tipped plugs were replaced at 60k service. Changed air filter 2 months back, no mileage improvement. Have used fuel injector cleaner too. Was going to replace distributor cap and rotor arm, but was told these don't have them, being coil on plug. Any ideas what I could try next, without necessarily visiting a main dealer?
  • Dual Fuel Vauxhall Vectra 11 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Dear All, I have a dual fuel Vauxhall Vectra that has developed the habit of simply cutting out when driving along quite smoothly. When this happens I simply coast to a halt, immediately re-start and off I go again. Quite often, but not always, when this happens the light on the dash indicating an electrical fault in the engine electronics stays on (when this happens you can't rev above 4,500 without it being awfully rough).
  • Mercedes C220CDI - Diesel Knock 16 Jul 2004 (Forum)
This comes on mainly in first and second gear when accelerating away but not until the engine is up to full normal working temperature. It disappears as the engine accelerates and performance and fuel consumption do not seem to be affected. The other symptom is that the car has recently been a bit hesitant and spluttering when starting from cold. I took it to my local Mercedes independent outlet who said that they thought that it could be a problem with one of the fuel injectors but they warned me that this could be fairly expensive to cure.
  • Ecotec PowerBoost 23 Aug 2003 (Forum)
However, I have a query which I hope you can answer. My car is a VW Golf 1996 "N" registration, 1.8 litre ADZ engine with single point fuel injection. EcoTek's site and the article in CM both make it very clear that the product must be used upstream on the airflow meter to avoid damaging it. The Haynes manual does not appear to show an airflow meter on my car's engine, only an inlet air temperature sensor which is an integral part of the fuel injector retaining cap.
  • Congestion charges - motorway tolls 2 Aug 2003 (Forum)
It seems that now we will have to pay for their building and upkeep AND to drive on them as well. Combine this with high fuel tax and I believe it adds up to a very unfair system I have this suggestion for our transport minister. Abolish road tax and lower fuel taxes. If we have the technology they say we have then track all car journeys and have us pay for what we actually drive adjusting those fees up or down according to busy areas and peak periods.
  • Ford diesel 1600 problem 3 Jan 2002 (Forum)

  • Honda CR-V 2.2 CTDI - Will not start when it is hot outside 9 Aug 2014 (Forum)
It has now strted not starting when the temperature is over 22' outside. The RAC said it might be the fuel pump. The garage who supplied the car have now quoted over £2,000 for a new fuel pump and injectors. Is this a known fault and any ideas, please?

  • Thoughts on Honda CRV's 17 May 2012 (Forum)
For my money I'm struggling so far to find a Honda Civic or Toyota Avensis, but can find Honda Crv's in my price range, but I've seen the fuel consumption figures on auto trader! Anyone have any experience as to whether they really do drink fuel as I do lots of urban and long journeys on the motorway? Are they good vehicles too?

Looking for a decent vehicle to do over 35,000+ miles a year that is both reliable and fuel efficient. I would be the only passenger mainly motorway driving, old car was a petrol 1.2 which was costing me tons on fuel so maybe a diesel. Advice on what maximum mileage I should be looking and age would be great total newbie!!
  • Ford Fiesta SaloonTDCi 2008 - Engine system fault 13 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Frequently my Fiesta 2008 TDCi goes into Limp Home Mode after a warning alarm sounds and the dash says 'Engine management fault. Ford plugged it in and it pointed towards the fuel filter which we have now changed, but it is still happening. The only other thing that needs doing is the fuel injectors need changing. Would this cause the fault alarm to sound and the LHM?

  • Spanish Speed limits 4 Mar 2011 (Forum)
A quick note for discussion, the Spanish government have announced that from March 7th the national speed limit on motorways will be reduced from 120 kph to 110 kph, this action is to reduce fuel consumption due to the current problems in Libya (where Spain gets most of its fuel). What concerns me more is that they also intend increasing the percentage of biofuel added to the standard diesel, I wonder what effect that will have on modern engines?
  • Nissan Almera - Engine fails to start 11 May 2010 (Forum)
Almera 1.6 SRi first fault in 13 years, Started the car this morning ran for 2-3 seconds now fails to start at all. There is a spark at the HT lead, also checked fuses to engine cont. and fuel etc.so I suspect the possibility of a fuel problem. I am led to believe there is a way of interegating the fault codes, if so can any one please advice on a way forward.
