  • BP Ultimate/Shell Optimax 17 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I wondered if any of the Back Roomers have any thoughts from their experience of using BP Ultimate or Shell Optimax-type fuels, and whether certain engines seem to benefit from using these fuels more than others?
  • Peugeot 307 HDi 90hp (2001) - 307 Fuel Tank 21 Oct 2010 (Forum)
Hello all, Been told that I could do with a new fuel tank in the long run due to warping (long story), I got a couple of questions: 1) I have a 2001 HDi 90 (Engine RHY or DW10TD) with a Siemens injection system, with the exception of tanks without the additive system (my car doesn't have a particulate sensor) , is the tank specific to that model or do other models use the same tank?
  • Increased mpg - redex or superunleaded? 15 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I've always use supermarket unleaded but decided to try BP superunleaded. I also put in some redex fuel/additive injector cleaner. Its only been a few days but I've noticed the fuel gauge not moving down as fast compared to before. Its too early to tell whether the mpg has increased and whether the slow moving fuel gauge is just psychological.
  • Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - 1.4tsi fuel consumption 12 Jan 2010 (Forum)
It is a joy to drive, as widely described, and definitely not underpowered. But I have been disappointed in the fuel consumption. Anyone else have any experience? Background is we live in the country and I regularly match or exceed the extra urban figure in my car. We were way off that with the Skoda, but I figured it was stop-start winter motoring and we needed a run to form a true impression.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.8TDCi Engine fuel pump failure (hi pressure) 20 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Dear all i have a 2003 tdci focus which i must admit is a good car, well was until 1 day the car would not start and had it towed to a garage who told me that it needed a new fuel pump as it was knackered. Having shopped around i can get a 2nd hand one for around the £200 mark but for a recon im looking at £400 onwards. This is a delphi high pressure pump. The 2nd hand one's all have different part no's and i was wondering if anybody would know if the other pumps with different no's will fit even if they are of the same year car.
  • Audi 80 Mk II (1991-1995) - 94 1.9 Wont start after cylinder head removal 13 Oct 2009 (Forum)
1.9 turbo diesel Audi 80 1994 I'm posting on behalf of a friend who is having a problem The cylinder head was removed and replaced due to suspect head gasket which turned out to be fine. The car did not initally start. They primed the fuel system to being fuel from the tank and it still did not start. They then attempted to start the car with an aerosol type easy start product into the air intake, the car started and ran like normal after that.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 09 1.9 1.9 diesel - engine cuts out intermittently 12 Sep 2009 (Forum)
My Berlingo's 1.9 diesel engine cuts out intermittently without warning and will not start immediately afterwards - I have to leave it 5-10 minutes before restarting. Interestingly the fault does not occur on a long run. I've cleaned out the fuel filter housing and replaced the fuel filter - I don't think fuel supply to the pump is a problem. I've taken it in for a diagnostic check at the local Citroen dealer and no fault was apparent. The mechanic suggested that the problem could be a solenoid on the diesel pump that communicates with the ECU.
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - Diesel fuel consumption figures! 12 Aug 2009 (Forum)
    Driver technique didn't suddenly change on 1/11/2008!!!! Can anyone explain why i can't get decent fuel economy out of this new car? Has anyone had similar experience? {new thread started for you}
  • Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - '98 1.2 merit 8-valve drain fuel tank 22 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Can't see any drain plug under the tank. If i manage to syphon it out do i need to do anything else like clean out fuel lines or put injector cleaner in the new tank of petrol? If so how much petrol should i refill the tank with and do i then run it or is it better to re-syphon this out also? Thanks

  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 97 1.9d Switch on Fuel Injection pump and other ma 18 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I have fitted a D8A engine in place of a DHY, the fuel pumps are slightly different. I had to change the blue conenctor over so I could get the stop solenoid to work and want to know what is the microswitch activated by a cam on the throttle arm? To mount it on the XUD110 pump I will have to drill two holes through the casting (you can see the molding) but when activating the switch manually nothing seems to happen.
  • Ford Fiesta (2002 - 2008) - 2003 1.4 tdci - leaking fuel pump 7 Apr 2008 (Forum)

  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 98 1.9 td starting problems. 24 Mar 2008 (Forum)
Peugeot 306 td 1.9 t reg with lucas pump. now the problem, I used the car for work, fine, I then went shopping, again fine. The following morning it wont start, no fuel in pipe between filter and pump. I bled the line; fine. I left car overnight and the same problem next morning, so on the advice of a friend I have changed fuel hand primer, fuel pipe from hand primer to filter, and the leak off pipes on the injectors, and the return pipe from the pump.
  • Renault - Fuel consumption figures 6 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I am contemplating changing my Ford Fusion diesel and am considering the Renault Modus dci 86, New Corsa diesel and new Fiat Grand Punto diesel. As I am a scrooge like motorist looking to use as little fuel as possible I wondered if anyone knows how realistic the claimed figures are? For example the Modus claims 54.3 urban, 68.9 extra and 62.8 combined Corsa 49.6 74.3 62.8 and Punto 45.6 80.7 62.8 I appreciate that driving style and road conditions wil impact significantly on consumption but given that they are supposed to be tested in the same way (I presume) how can the Punto delver so much more extra urban than the others and the Modus a much better urban figure.
  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 93 1.4i (C14SE) won't start. 30 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I have a 1993 Astra 1.4i (MULTEC M + cat). Engine code C14SE. It won't start. I've replaced the crankshaft sensor, the fuel pump, the engine temperature sensor and the plugs. All 4 plugs are firing (taken out of the engine and left connected to the DIS, lying on the rocker cover for an earth). There's pressure in the fuel rail (when pressing the Schrader valve).
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 98 XUD TD will not start 15 Jan 2008 (Forum)
My 306 TD with lucas pump will not start, it cranks fine. Tested glow plugs, all ok. Tested feeds and earth to 3 pin connector for fuel stop solenoid, i have 2 x 12v and earth with ignition on. Are these readings correct? undone 17mm unions on injectors and cranked over, no fuel coming out. Removed pump and fuel stop solenoid. Connected up solenoid and put ignition on, it does not move.

  • Amortising Diesel Costs 7 Sep 2007 (Forum)
In HJ's update to the Hyundai I-30 test he states that... "..Do the sums and at £2,000 cheaper than the 1.6 CRDI and £200 less fuel cost per 10,000 miles it?s going to take 100,000 miles to make up the difference in purchase price..." In other words at present fuel prices, the increased fuel consumption of the petrol car is offset by its lower purchase price such that until you get to 100,000 the actual saving to you if you buy the diesel is nil.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - TD '99 problems with water/steam 25 Aug 2007 (Forum)
My first thought was head gasket but the car starts fine and there is absolutely no loss in performance whatsoever - drives perfectly only prob is coolant constantly needs top up and just chucks it out the back in steam. there seems to be fuel/water mix somewhere as well. fuel in water??? Iv heard things about fuel filter problems... any ideas??? Please help me fix my kettle on wheels!!!!! thanks D
  • Fuel Contamination 15 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Expecting the problem to be covered under warranty I booked in with the dealer only to be dissapointed when I was informed that the problem was due to Petrol contaminating the Diesel prompting the fuel system to be drained, cleaned and filters replaced. I am 100% certain that Petrol was not used by mistake so the only cause of this contamination could have been at a filling station with some petrol contamination within a deisel pump.
