mpv for towing? 14 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Family of 6 need to upgrade beaten up old 405 estate and need some advice! There a fairly big list of criteria new car needs to fit! This is sole family car, so needs to be fairly economical to run - (at least, no really big 4x4's) At least 6 seats Not too low slung - We live out on the moors and lanes get big ruts - 405 just about ok, old Mondeo would lose it 's exhaust from time to time. -
Best Auto MPV 9 Feb 2005 (Forum)
It sailed through last year at the same garage, and to be fair some of the points I was expecting. Well she's a good old gal so the cash will flow to help her but it got me thinking..... which is always dangerous I know. The wife has that Nissan Almera auto but has been keen on exploring a combined car. I am perhaps tempted by a newer Discovery automatic. -

Radiator losing water 19 May 2003 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I drive an F-reg Vauxhall Astra, which causes me no end of grief, being an old car and all. I threw a piston last year, so had the engine replaced with a G-reg 1.4 Cavalier engine. My radiator is 3 years old, and I've already had the water pump replaced this year when it packed up in October. -

Vauxhall Cavalier (1988 - 1995) - 94 1.8 misfire/judder when idle 12 Oct 2009 (Forum)
hi new to forum recently bought a old cav as a winter hack while motorbike comes off the road for the winter.was running perfect when i bought it.parkesd it on the drive about a week later replaced rocker cover gasket as it was leaking, topped oil up with some 15w40 semi synthetic.started it up and now there is a horrible vibration when inside the car and the engine is slightly misfiring.removed plugs to find out which cylinder was misfiring seems to be no.4 as plug is a soot black colour where the other 3 are tan.replaced all plugs and leads but still with no joy.is it just co incedence that this occured when i changed rocker cover gasket.also cyl no.4 lifter is tappy which it wasnt before i changed gasket.the old gasket was a cork one and had to be scraped off,if a bit of old gasket flung intothe top of the engine.could this cause the misfire.or is it a sticky lifter as it had sat for 2 weeks before i bought it.i have put some hydralic lifter treatment in incase it is a sticky lifter but cant drive it as am not insured yet so can only rev it on the drive to work the treatment round. any help suiggestions greatly appreciated as unsure what it could be it is a 94 lreg cavalier 1.8 auto fitted with c18nz engine and it has the ignotion where there is no dizzy cap.thanks -
£1,500 buying decision 23 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Another consideration is that my wife is likely to be driving when she passes her test, and she's only 5' 3" - so she needs to be able to reach the pedals. Non-coupe options I've been looking at include the late old-shape Mondeo V6, the Mitsubishi Galant V6, Mazda Xedos and the top-end late old-shape Nissan Primeras. Any thoughts on the above choices are most welcome - and of course any other suggestions. Cheers in advance! -

My wife has a 4 year old Swift that we bought from the local dealer when it was about 10 months old and it has been serviced there ever since. This year, the car failed the MOT test because one rear tyre was illegal, owing to very uneven wear. -

Any - Breakdown cover 20 Jun 2023 (Forum)
Hi, just received my renewal from Autoaid. Last year was £61 now it’s gone up to over £78 plus if your car is over 10 years old I would have to pay the first £25. Not that impressed with that sort of increase. Wondering what other people are seeing in their renewals. Sparky 100. -

Any - seat belt replacement 3 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I see a question today on this on Ask HJ. I have solved slow seat belts in old cars by pulling out the belts to their full extent and spraying with a silicon aerosol. I think it was recommended by a backroomer a few years ago. Anyway worth a try before replacing the belts or paying a garage. -
