Skoda, BMW, Audi and Toyota - Car opinions 7 Jan 2023 (Forum)
I'm looking to buy a new used car approx 3 years old. Am currently looking at a Skoda Karoq, BMW 2 Active Tourer, Audi A3 and Toyota C-HR. Does anyone have any opinions on any of these please? Things that are important to me are safety and reliability. -
Ford Fiesta - V5 Address and insurance claim 23 Sep 2022 (Forum)
I moved house a few years back and totally oblivious forgot to change my address in a different city on the V5. The car is taxed and insured. I had an accident and the car is written off. The car is insured at the correct address. Will the wrong address on the v5 void the insurance or the write off payment? Thanks Ps the new people in the old house still forward post so no fines have gone to the wrong address. -
MINI One - 11.9V should be enough to start a car? 16 May 2020 (Forum)
Heya - my Mini One no longer starts, it just makes a clicking noise on turning the key. I was hoping that it's just a dead battery - it is 10 years old after all - but testing with a multimeter shows it's still at 11.9V. That's a little low, but that should be enough to get the car started, right? Just wanted to rule out the easy options before I have to call a mechanic out. -

Any - Recommended insurer for teenage son's first car 17 Mar 2015 (Forum)
My teenage son is soon to take his driving test, and will be buying his first car (something like a 10-year-old Fiesta / Clio / Corsa etc). Anyone got any recommendations for which insurance firm to approach? My wife and I are both on Direct Line, but I can't imagine them offering a particularly good deal for a first-time driver ... -
MINI Convertible 2010 - clutch/flywheel 4 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I contacted you before but failed to make clear that the car is less than 3 years old and owned from new. I would be grateful to know what sort of driving style could lead to catastriphic clutch failure after only 11300 miles. The pattern of driving is no different from previous cars with similar annual low mileage. -
FIAT Panda - Traction Control on new cars 17 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Anyone know if all new cars have to have some form of traction control? My 2012 old model Panta 1.2 Active Eco cuts out in bottom gear when accelerating hard. It doesn't have the ASR button of higher spec models or the ESP warning light, the two traction control items referred to in the handbook. -
Renault Megane Coupe + Cabrio - worn disc brakes 16 Jun 2011 (Forum)
My 2008 registered car failed it's 1st mot yesterday. The garage stated it required new discs and pads. As the car has done only 27000 mls can you tell me if this is normal for a three year old car with this mileage. I really feel it's quite excessive as I had a vauxhall vectra with 65,000 mls on the clock and the original discs and never had any problem passing an mot. -
V W Golf 1.6 FSI (07 Plate) - Clutch Judder 21 May 2011 (Forum)
When starting from a sligh incline the car judders. If I increase the revs the car will start. There is a high take up for the 'bit' on the clutch. Do I need a new clutch??, if so, what cost am I looking at for supple and fit. Do I also need to look to replace the 'cam belt' as the car is 4 years old, but has only completed 31000 miles. -
Renault Clio - car insurance query 28 Feb 2011 (Forum)
My 20 yr-old daughter this year arranged her own car insurance and has learned the lesson of looking at the small print having been charged £100 for four mid-term changes. Hard lesson but my question is:is there a rough percentage increase when the same 3PFT cover is kept but the vehicle is changed from 1.2 to1.4 and the value increased from £2k to £4k? -

Why do some people flash cars with xenons? 22 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I'm not talking about the boy racers who have stuck xenons into their old bangers but a new car with xenons fitted as an (expensive) option. I have travelled in identical models on the same rural road at night. Without xenons the dipped beams were really poor and it was really difficult to see the road, with xenons it was much, much better but a couple of drivers flashed. -
petrol consumption in brand new cars 17 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I've recently bought a new honda jazz 1.4 SE to replace an indentical model that was 5 years old. I'm very disappointed to be getting around 10mpg less for indentical journeys. I'm a "green" driver with a very gentle right foot. I've never had a brand new car before. The Honda dealer says its because its still "running in". -
Do i need to tell dealer anything 15 Apr 2008 (Forum)
I have bought a new car this week and traded in my old car. The dealer has given me bottom trade price for trade in without seeing the car or asking about its condition but i know there is a problem with the steering, question is do i need to tell them especially when all they will do is put it to the auctions as i dont wqnt to spend money on something thats not worth a lot? -
Rover - 07 reg Rover -- How?? 8 Dec 2007 (Forum)
An event in itself I know... however, saw an 07 reg Rover 75. Now that got me thinking. AFAIK, Rover have not produced cars since 2004 (54 or 05) at very latest. Cherished reg plates don't allow you to make the car look newer than i is, so how on earth does a 3 year old car drive away with a newarly new registration mark? -
Skoda Octavia II (2004 - ) - Buying one from Auction 19 Oct 2007 (Forum)
My brother is looking to buy a 2 to 3 years old ideally Octavia TDi and he's thinking of going to auction, I'm going with him next week. Just would like a few do''s and dont's when buying a car from auction. The car would be used as a private hire so you could suggest others which you think are good cars to consider for taxi. -
2nd Car Insurance 19 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I`ve been told i cant use my full n.c.b on a second policy. Why not? What a complete con! The fact i have two cars doesnt make me a worse driver does it? I can only drive one at a time so i`m stumped to see the reasoning behind it other than greed on the insurers part. Am i mistaken? (apologies if this is old material-i tried the search but it came up blank) Cheers - jon -
MB servicing con? 29 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Hello, My wife drives the old style 'A' MB. The car was taken by MB today and returned with it service book duly stamped for the ''A'' service. What concerns me that the MB main dealer did not use Mobil 1 as stipulated in their 'warranty policy statement' but used another brand of Mobil.
