elusive VW Golf Mk3 starting/firing issu 14 Nov 2013 (Forum)
Wonders if it might have been too many keys on the fob amsking up the immobliser comms. 2nd time. 15 mile run. All warm. Same thing. So take battery off car (with a view to resetting the EMU-hey if it works for microsft..), leave off over weekend. Yep, starts 1st time. Been fine since, short runs et al. Thinks to himself-'gotcha!' -
Mazda CX-30 - Battery problems 22 May 2023 (Forum)
My initial thoughts were that it had probably spent its time at the repairers being started and stopped as they moved it around the shop without any long running to charge it. It was also delivered back to me on a trailer so still no long run. I have given it plenty of long runs since then but the problem occasionally rears its head when it suddenly won't start one day. -
Sports Car - Classic or Modern(ish) 3 Mar 2020 (Forum)
But would consider other classics in our price range, although we haven't found many. Our dilemma is largely based around comfort and running costs. We're not sure that the practicalities of entering and exiting a small low car with 'old' seats would be a good thing at our age. Although not yet ancient, we're not getting any younger ;( The upside of a classic, as we see it, would be the lower running costs: Road Tax, MoT etc but an unknown for us would be maintenance and repair costs. -
Peugeot Expert Tepee (2007 - ) - 2001 2.0hdi - running problem 25 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Ok i have a Peugeot Expert 2.0 HDI with running problems so heres my story. I bought my van and found a wekk later the head gasket had gone as it was pushuing out water from the expansion tank and the low water light kept coming on. Booked it into a diesel spectialist garage and the comfirmed with a chemical test the head gasket was on the way out. -
M reg 1.4 Clio high fuel consumption 15 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I have had my 1.4 clio single point injection manual for just over a year, when i bought it i woulkd get on avaerage about 350 miles to a tank just under 10 miles to the litre. it went up to nearly 400 on a long run. the car has been used for commuter runs 20 miles each way and the fuel economy dropped. i put this down to the cold weather and reasonably short trips. then the exhaust system went which i have replaced fully all 4 sections including the cat. i have just done a trip to scotland from essex then down to cornwall, on the way to scotland i managed 280 miles to the tank full!! -
Warranty & its distortion of car values 31 Jul 2004 (Forum)
It's quite clear that a reasonable number of BRers buy new cars & run them for 3 years until the warranty runs out. Very sensible. You always get to run a nice new shiny car (Huzzah!) & you know that you will never have an unexpected bill in the unlikely event that something goes wrong. -
Motoring in the cheap lane. 16 Jan 2003 (Forum)
I admit to being a bit chuffed to have picked up, what I consider to be a bit of a peach......it's astoundingly clean, having been cossetted, garaged, serviced every year, and has :- Central Locking, Electric windows, Power steering, Sunroof and runs as sweetly as you can expect it to run. It's had a recent battery, stainless exhaust and (premature?) clutch. Admittedly the radio's on the blink and the air conditioning........OK, so it hasn't got air conditioning. -
Buying new cars is a bit like smoking 25 Jan 2002 (Forum)
The mortgage is paid off early, the kids have left home, start your retirement early, or work part time, or work beacuse you want to, not because you have to. Running a new car costs more than a mortgage {except in London perhaps}. We only live once, better to run old cars and have time to enjoy life than to go to work for long hours simply to pay for a fast depreciating lump of soon to be scrap, parked up as you are working.
