• vw quality and profits 19 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Shoring up quality is critical to turning around Volkswagen's U.S. operations, unprofitable since 2002. ``Volkswagen has a problem with U.S. consumers in their 30s who had a Volkswagen in their 20s and will never go back,'' said Rebecca Lindland, a senior analyst at Global Insight Inc. in Lexington, Massachusetts. ``All they remember is being broken down in college with their Volkswagens.''

That's the way it works under the Sale of Goods Act where it is, ultimately, the Retailer who is responsible to the Consumer - if I sell a faulty computer to you then I have to put it right, not the Manufacturer, then I in turn take up the case with the Manufacturer. It's common sense because otherwise I could sell you a shed-load of dodgy computers, pocket the proceeds and all you get from me is 'Go and see Hewlett Packard mate.
• Why did BMW buy Rover? 3 Nov 2013 (Forum)
BAe were keen to dispose of Rover, as the company did not fit well with their core interests of Aerospace and defence. The high capital-consuming business of long-run, mass production of low-cost consumer products had little synergy with the low capital-consuming, build-to-order, niche production of high-value items such as Airbus wings or military jets.
• SEAT - Delays on new car delivery dates, help needed 3 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Having spoken to others it would appear a pattern of new buyers build dates being pushed back in order to allow scrapage scheme purchases through is beginning to immerge. I'd like to bring this to the attention of the motor press & consumer rights groups so any similar stories you may have would be of great help Below is an out line of the current debacle my wife & I are experiencing at the hands of both SEAT & the dealer. On September 13th of 2009 my wife put down a deposit with a dealer for a brand new Seat Altea 1.9 DSG with a number of extras.

Find some Castrol Magnatec bought years ago for the Audi, never used. That car could not be persuaded to consume oil under any circumstances. Experience pangs of doubt. How long does this stuff last? Recall that it's been around for about 4 billion years. Wonder if another five minutes will make that much difference?

The 21st Century Judge will use the high-output 5.7-liter LS6 V-8 that also serves in the Corvette Z06 and the Cadillac CTS-V. Output will hover right around 400 horsepower; a six-speed manual will be the only transmission offering. Also look for quad exhausts--two extending from each rear corner or possibly even two pipes running along each side.

Later trials in different race and road engines showed this level of improvement was no fluke, so it really does work; and, with the right chemistry to look after the engine and transmission internals, there?s no down side of increased wear. 14) Why do some engines consume oil? Is this a problem? Large air-cooled engines or classics with wide piston clearances, or very highly stressed liquid-cooled engines which flex under load, or which use ultra-light pistons with the minimum number of rings are likely to be oil users.
