Love Hate Relationship

Yes, I have quite a love/hate relationship with this car. There's so much to love : the comfort, the luxury, the power, the safety, the gadgets! I do like a gadget. Pre heating the car from the comfort of my sofa on a cold day, the electronic side steps, the heated, massage seats, the heated steering wheel... I love all those. And this recent bout of snow and ice has proved that this is a supremely safe car; as I passed stranded drivers and cars slipping and sliding, my RR did not slip once: in snow mode it ascended and descended the steepest hills without me worrying atall. And it's terrific offroad: yes, i am one of the rare breed that take their Range Rovers off the tarmac. I have an old Navara for such things but the RR performs even better and in supreme comfort! So it's a lovely, lovely car. But the downsides: let's skip over the appalling mpg as a 5 litre supercharged petrol engine is not going to be economical. (I test drove the diesel and the hybrid but nothing beats the growl of the petrol engine). Let's even forgive the fact that some good ideas like the boot that is supposed to open with a wiggle of your foot. It doesn't. The fact is, this car has had a lot of visits to the dealership for a whole variety of faults. At the moment it's awaiting new parts for the driver's seat which cannot be adjusted. And the radio only works for 1 minute at a time. There have been numerous other things that have gone wrong. I don't know what other dealerships are like but my local one is pretty inefficient: I have to wait weeks for an appointment to diagnose the problem then more weeks for an appointment to fix it, not withstanding delays for parts. And no courtesy car. It has enraged me so much at times that I've gone off and test driven other possibilities like the Bentayga and Merc GLS AMG. But I simply don't like them as much as I like the RR!!
If you can afford to buy a car that costs the same as a small freehold property, hopefully you can afford to keep a nice spare vehicle in your garage. You'll need it. Often.
