Brakes maintenance costs make running costs high

This is my second new Defender XS, this one ordered to my specification.
With the all terrain tyres fuel consumption dropped and averaged out about 32 mpg the other car on road tyres did about 36mpg.
Excellent car for long journeys with great commanding view of the road.

At 12 months old and 2,800 miles the brakes felt strange and dealer advised that new front discs and pads needed at £940 due to the inner face being rusty and not covered by warranty - this adds 33p / mile to the running cost.

No other faults experienced with the car.
