Updated 2022 Ford Fiesta announced
- New mild-hybrid engines
- Digital dashboard
- Priced from £16,620
The 2022 Ford Fiesta has been revealed, bringing with it new styling, upgraded tech and mild-hybrid engines first seen on the Puma.
2022 Ford Fiesta price and release date
The new Ford Fiesta starts from £16,620, which is slightly less than the outgoing model. The 2022 Fiesta is on sale now, though first deliveries aren't expected until 2022. A shortage of semiconductors caused by the Covid pandemic is the likely reason for the delay.
2022 Ford Fiesta styling
The current Ford Fiesta went on sale in 2017 and this is an update of that car, so radical new looks are off the menu.
Instead, you get a Ford badge in the centre of the grille (previously found above it), a taller bonnet and bright-white LED headlights that replace filament bulbs. The tail-lights still use bulbs but now get a moody black surround. LEDs are optional.
Different models get unique looks. Trend and Titanium trims get chrome highlights, sporty ST-Line models swap the chrome for glossy-black plastic with a sportier lower grille and rugged Fiesta Active models get vertical grille rungs which make them look taller.
Titanium, ST-Line and Active models are also available with a Vignale pack that adds 17 or 18-inch alloy wheels, posh Sensico seat upholstery and matte carbon-effect interior trims.
Seven new alloy wheel designs and two new colours – Boundless Blue and Beautiful Berry – sign off the overhaul.
2022 Ford Fiesta engines
The Ford Fiesta gets 48V mild-hybrid engines for the first time.
The new technology gives the Fiesta a large starter motor that can recoup power as the car slows to a halt as well as giving it a light helping hand when you make off again. It also means it can coast on the motorway. The result? Fuel savings of up to 10 per cent versus the same engine without the new tech, according to Ford.
The tech comes fitted to Ford's 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine with either 125 or 155PS, the former is available with an optional seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox that helps it return fuel economy of 45mpg and CO2 emissions of 117g/km – for year-one road tax of £180. The six-speed torque converter auto, offered on the previous version of the Fiesta, is no longer available.
The 100PS version does without the 48V technology but costs the same to run fitted with a six-speed manual.
2022 Ford Fiesta new technology
Ford has given its new Fiesta a comprehensive list of updates.
All models come with LED headlights that have bright-white light on dipped and full beam. Or you can upgrade to the new Matrix LED headlights that can shape their full beams around other vehicles.
A 12.3-inch digital display is another new addition. It replaces analogue dials with a screen that can display a sat-nav map right behind the steering wheel and change its appearance depending on what mode you're in on the drive select.
It also has a mode that tells you what the car's new autonomous driving aids are getting up to. They include Wrong Way Alert, which makes it clear (if it isn't already) that you're driving down the wrong side of the motorway, active cruise control that can read speed limits (and adhere to them) and automatic parking. The Fiesta can also steer itself in lane, warn you of cars in your blind spot and brake automatically to avoid collisions, either going forwards or in reverse.
2022 Ford Fiesta ST
Ford has also revamped the Fiesta ST hot hatch.
It too gets sharper looks and, 17 or 18-inch wheels finished in a "brooding dark" Magnetite and you can now specify it in Mean Green paint that we first saw (and loved) on the Puma ST. Inside, you get new sports seats, a flat-bottomed steering wheel and carbon-effect trims. Performance, sadly, is unchanged.
Is there a 2022 Ford Fiesta?
The Ford Fiesta was updated in 2022 when it was given a light restyle, new infotainment and mild-hybird engines.
Should you buy a Ford Fiesta?
You should. The Ford Fiesta is a stylish, cheap-to-run small car that's also great fun to drive.
What is the best Ford Fiesta to buy?
Titanium versions of the Ford Fiesta have all the kit you could possibly need, while the mild-hybird 48V 125PS engine is nippy and cheap to run.

If the so-called "New" Fiesta is less plastic and Cheese than my partners 2014 version! That would be a good start. The front and rear panels never line up with the wheel arches and the petrol flap just fell off one day!! Not exactly cheap to buy but cheaply built i would say.New VW Polo looks good !!.

Having quietly ditched their troublesome Powershift transmission and reverted to proven reliable torque converter, Ford are now back with another twin clutch system. Will it proves more reliable than Powershift, or is it just a revamped Powershift with a new name?Lee Power on 19 September 2021
Ecoboost + mild hybrid + dual clutch transmission = what could possibly go wrong?Add a comment
