Range Rover Sport SVR to debut at Pebble Beach
The high-performance Range Rover Sport SVR is set to be revealed to the public for the first time at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. Powered by a supercharged V8 with 550PS and 680Nm of torque, the SVR holds the current lap record for a production SUV around the Nurburgring.
The Range Rover Sport SVR is designed with on-road performance in mind, but it still has a four-wheel drive chassis. Transmission is an eight-speed automatic and performance is impressive – 0-62mph takes 4.5 seconds and top speed is restricted to 162mph. Sound is enhanced by a two-stage exhaust, with a sportier note at high revs and a more muted note at lower engine speeds.
Suspension is fully independent front and rear, with two selectable ride heights thanks to an upgraded air suspension system. Despite the SVR having a greater on-road focus than other Range Rover models, it retains plenty of suspension articulation for tricky terrain, along with a wade depth sensor for travelling through water.
The styling has been suitably beefed up, with more aggressive bodywork that improves aerodynamics and cooling. Alloy wheels are 21-inch as standard with optional 22-inch wheels available. Customers can order the Range Rover Sport SVR from October 2014, with first deliveries due in early 2015. Prices start at £93,450.
