Volkswagen reveals prices for Golf Estate

Volkswagen has announced the prices and specifications for its new Golf Estate, which goes on sale in the UK tomorrow. The Estate will be available with seven engines, three trim levels and three gearboxes from launch. Prices will start from £17,915 for the entry level S trim and rise to £25,855 for the range topping GT. 

Like the Golf hatchback, the Estate is based on Volkswagen’s MQB platform, making it lighter and bigger than its predecessor, with a 105kg weight reduction and 100-litres more load space. Total cargo volume will be an impressive 1620-litres, while the introduction of a multi-level floor will allow the rear seats to be folded to provide a completely flat floor. Payload capacity will vary from 600-611 kg, depending on which engine is specified.

The Golf Estate will be offered with a choice of seven engines – four petrol units and three diesels. The entry level will be a 85PS 1.2-litre TSI, with a five-speed manual gearbox, which will return a combined 56.5mpg. A 105PS version of the 1.2 will be available, and also return 56.5mpg, with a choice of a six-speed manual or seven-speed DSG gearbox. Those wanting more power can specify a 1.4-litre TSI, with either 122PS or 140PS, returning 55mpg.

Diesel options include a 90PS 1.6-litre TDI, with five-speed manual gearbox, a 105PS 1.6-litre TDI with five-speed manual or seven-speed DSG gearbox and a 150PS 2.0-litre TDI, with either six-speed manual or six-speed DSG gearbox. Fuel consumption is still to be confirmed for the diesel engines, but expect between 60 and 80mpg respectively.

All Golf Estates will be fitted with Bluetooth connectivity, DAB radio, start/stop technology and XDS differential as standard, and prices for the entry level S trim will start at £17,915. SE models will command £20,620 and add 16-inch alloy wheels and automatic brakes that will stop the car if it senses a collision. The range topping GT will start from £23,935 and add 17-inch alloy wheels, sports suspension and tinted rear windows.
