Audi unveils 265PS A1 quattro

Audi has finally unveiled the high performance version of the A1 - but the bad news is that it's only destined for mainland Europe, for now at least. Badged the A1 quattro it will be limited to a run of just 333 models and goes on sale in the second half of 2012. Audi says that a decision on whether it comes to the UK will depend on 'customer reaction' but given the popularity of hot hatches here, it's more than likely it will go on sale.

It's powered by a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 256PS along with 350Nm of torque. This gives it a 0-62mph time of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 152mph. Economy is a claimed 33.2mpg while it comes as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox plus of course, quattro four-wheel drive.

Just one paint job is available so every A1 quattro comes in Glacier White metallic and a high-gloss black roof. It also has white 18-inch alloy wheels with a 'turbine' design and comes with bespoke front and rear bumpers and a two-colour rear spoiler.

Other details include tinted LED rear lights, tinted rear windows and a contrasting black colour for the rear hatch and rear diffuser. Inside the A1 quattro has its seats and door armrests finished in black Silk Nappa leather with contrasting red stitching while the multi-adjustable front sport seats have larger bolsters and integrated head restraints.

As it's the top of the range A1, it's no surprise that it comes well equipped as standard with xenon headlights, adaptive brake lights, light and rain sensors, parking sensors, automatic air conditioning and cruise control. It also has DAB digital radio, the Audi Music Interface (for connecting an iPod) a HDD navigation system, Bluetooth and a CD changer.
