Frankfurt Motor Show 2015: Next-generation Toyota Prius makes first appearance
The all-new Toyota Prius has made its first appearance at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The next-generation car runs on a new platform, which makes for a more practical and spacious cabin. Prices should start at around £25,000.
Despite running on a new platform, the 1.8-litre hybrid system is carried over from the outgoing Prius, albeit revised to improve economy. The built in electric motor has been downsized and there is a new battery system, which helps maximise load capacity.
Toyota promises improvements to economy and lower emissions than ever before, but so far there are no solid figures. Given this is Toyota’s flagship hybrid model so expect it to be the cleaner and more frugal than the Yaris Hybrid, so expect more than 90mpg with CO2 emissions of 70g/km or below.
