Ford unveils Europe-ready Edge SUV
Ford’s has unveiled the European version of its new SUV - the Edge. It has already been on sale in the USA for some time, but has now been tweaked and improved to suit European tastes. It’s due on sale in early 2016 and should cost from around £30,000.
Beneath the SUV styling the Edge shares its platform with the Mondeo, so it should offer a good compromise between enjoyable handling and comfort. Initially it will be available with a choice of two 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engines producing 190PS or 210PS.
The Edge will get the same technology as other current Ford models, including Sync 2 infotainment and active safety gadgets. Collision mitigating brakes, adaptive cruise control, traffic sign recognition and automatic parking are all on the cards. Final specification details will be announced nearer the on-sale date.
Aside from the new Edge, Ford is to introduce a revised Kuga and a revised Ecosport in 2016. Both will get updated styling and new technology, while the Ecosport also benefits from improved interior refinement and tweaked driving dynamics, as well as improved performance.
