The slip indicator warning light regularly lights on my dashboard.
It's perfectly possible to spin the drive wheels on a small, light FWD car in dry conditions. Try using less throttle when pulling away. If it doesn't light up, you've just found the problem.
If it still lights and also does so when driving along normally, the most likely cause is a dickey ABS sensor. I had exactly the same thing on a new Skoda Octavia, they wouldn't believe me either, until I got one of their lads to test drive it with me in the car and he got presented with the traction control cutting in repeatedly too.
You may want to check the manual to find what the switch actually does. It may disable the ESP, but leave ABS and T/C active. The one on that same Skoda did.
