Peugeot 206, 2001 reg - Car Written-off - Shel19

Hi,
My car was hit by someone last week when it was parked. He left his insurance details but the insurance people have said the car is a write-off. They have valued the car to 300 pounds only.
The car model is Peugeot 206, 2001 reg - the car had been written-off previously - that is before i had bought it.
Now, I don't have a car and I really need a car to get to work.
Any advice will be much appreciated as I really dont know what i should do? Thank you.

Sadly I don't think that your insurance company is wrong on its valuation of your car ,particularly as its been written off previously .

I wonder if your car can still be driven safely ,if it can , perhaps you could ask the insurance company to give you cash and the car .

Thanks for replying. So do u think i should take just the 300 pounds? Yes, the car can still be driven as its just the door that is broken.

Buy another door from a scrapyard for 40quid and you are 260 in pocket.

Would you know where can i buy a door for 40 quid. I would still have to give fitting charges which i think it would cost me more?

Look on ebay. Plenty available from as little as £25. Bide your time (if you can) and one will come up in the right colour within reasonable travelling distance. Not difficult to fit and no painting required if you find one the same colour. I'm guessing but I'd have thought about an hour or so work including swapping door card (if different) and wiring for window and central locking assuming it has these.

The other thing you can do to try and improve on the £300, is look at Autotrader and print off all similar 2001 Peugeot 206's of similar mileage and condition. Send them to your insurance company asking them to review the price they have offered you.

Obviously they will take into account the fact that it was previously written off, but if for example you end up with another £200, happy days.

With the corrrect tools it will only take 1 hour to change the door.
