My car was hit whilst parked, insurance was dealt with, car mended and over a year later I am still receiving phone calls from claims agents willing me to make a claim for injury, I wasn't in the car at the time of the accident, my father was, no injury, he enjoyed all the fuss though!

I understand that the other persons insurance company sold my details to 250 claims agents for something around £5 each, they must have made a profit on the income after outgoings for repairs etc. At present I have had over 40 calls asking me to commit fraud and claim a sum of money, I have no protection from these calls even though my line is on a preference service. Is there any way that insurance companies can be denied access to my details and what they do with them?

Short of the government getting off its fat, complacent backside and legislating to get rid of these claims farming vultures, rather than just spouting hand-wringing platitudes while pocketing the insurance industry's lobby cash, probably not.

Lets get this clear.

Your car was hit whilst parked.

The other drivers insurance paid for the repairs.

They sold your details to 250 claim companies for £5 a go, total £1250.

These 250 companies are now badgering you to claim from the company that sold them the info.

If I were you I would ask the next one that rings to claim for the 250 calls that have wasted your time.

I did that, I started telling them that 'This call is charged at £10 per minute", but still they ring. I have found that bashing my head against a brick wall is a far more pleasant occupation!

It goes along with unwanted calls offering PPI compensation when you've never had any PPIs - I still get calls from claims agents about an accident 2.5 years ago that had the damage claim settled in weeks and the injury claim settled within the year.

Ofcom is a waste of space - toothless - I'm just as rude and vulgar as I can be to these callers but they still call back !

Note to self, get a spare PAYG simcard and put in old spare mobile phone.

In the event of buying car insurance or having an accident only give that telephone number to whoever asks.

In the event of accident, charge phone up turn it on and field calls as required, once repaired to satisfaction ceremoniously burn simcard whilst toasting the downfall of shyster crooked claims handlers and the insurers complicite in this scam with a hot toddy...sorted.

Um, if you were less than honest and remembered a sudden chronic (and unfalsifiable) ailment that had only appeared after the incident, then the resulting claim and costs would more than wipeout the profit from selling your details to claims agents. So, why does the insurance industry do this? Unless, they only sell details of hopeless cases that have little or no chance or receiving compensation. But then why would claims agents pay money for useless details? What a circus!

They have my landline number, I cannot do anything else other than answer the calls. I believe the country I live in has gone mad, how can this be happening, is there any sense of right and wrong left in Britain?

P.S. rant over!

Tell them that if they phone again, you will sue them for your lost time, citing the case Herman vs AAC. This gets rid of paper junk mail and should work on the phone too.

If they phone you at roughly the same time each day, on consecutive days, and it's the same company, this constitutes harrassment and you can ring the police to sort it after about 3 or 4 days worth of it. Someone will know this law better than I on here.

Bobbin Threadbare.

You'll find many of these calls are 'international' or 'number withheld'.

I have great fun winding them up.

Aahhhh, something positive, I'm on the www.saynotocoldcalls.co.uk from that suggestion about the court case and will follow it up.

Many thanks.

I have just had a call from my insurance company, they have given me an some options to stop the calls:-

1. make a claim.

2. Tell the caller that a claim has been made.

OK, so only another 100 odd calls to go? I do believe that banging my head against a brick wall may be better, no wonder so many are making false claims!
