Volvo V70 D5 2002 - Volvo V70 D5 2002 cold starting problem - BruceM

When parked outside overnight and the air temperature drops to freezing . . . the engine refuses to start.

It turns over fine, but does not fire up; the battery is fine; the glow plus have been tested as OK.

After a few hours and when the air temperature picks up, the engine starts.

When the car has been garaged and the overnight air temperature falls to below freezing, the engine fires up OK.

Thoughts as to possible cause(s):- a sticky relay ? and ECU defect ? A short or problem with the immobilser electrics ?

Most likely one or more failing injectors. Get a "leak back test" done on your injectors which will show the culprits.

A not uncommon issue on 2002 D5's - the good news is that it is rare you need to replace all 5 at once.
