Suzuki Swift - New Suzuki Swift - Glenn 42

Currently have one as a courtesy car and must say the economy is exceptional, with 52 mpg according to the trip computer, the car is excellent to drive even as a 1.2, well equipped and looks good in burnt orange. I was a never a huge fan of the previous model, finding it thrashy and not very economical, but the new Swift seems far better. Anyone else on here own one and are they reliable?

I have had one since August.

I find it very economical and much more refined than the last model. The ride is also improved. The handling is very good. Reliability should be excellent; my old 1.5 GLX had no faults during the five years I owned it.

A very underated super mini!

I did find the new engine far better than the old 1.3, which could be a drag above 60mph, and also the new car seems to be able to do 50 mpg with ease, where the old Swift rarely bettered 42 mpg. Also the equipment levels are excellent for the money and as a respected local dealer sells them, I am considering a Swift next.

Doc, is there a great deal of difference in general oomph between your old 1. 5 and the 1.2? I believe the power measured in bhp is fairly similar between the two.

I was reading in Autobild that they think the Swift is a far better buy than a Mini less problems, built better and far better value for money having never driven either I would not know but the Swift looks the bees knees at the side of a Mini.

The lower power of the smaller engine (93/100 bhp) is noticeable, especially on pulling away, but if you keep the revs up the performance is good for a 1.2

The emissions are a lot lower and the insurance is cheaper.

Overall, a better car than the old model.

Now that I am a pensioner I will purchase a small car the Swift is top of my list I would go for the 1.2 and would be used mainly round town but I will occasionally do a long run across europe do you think that it will suit my purposes I am not to bothered about top speed but comfort is essential.

I think you will be surprised at the good ride.

It is very quiet and smooth when cruising at speed. ( the SZ4 has cruise control, climate control and keyless entry)

I recommend a test drive over different types of road (not just a quick run around the block)

Thanks for the info I plan to either hire one if possible or get one for an extended test drive. .
